Say Cheese: OLTL’s Jessica Gets Married
What really goes on at those glamorous-looking photo shoots? I was recently a fly on the wall at ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s session to promote the “Who will Jessica marry?” storyline.
The shoot took place in a small (no understatement) studio at ABC. I arrived to see Bree Williamson, Forbes March and Kamar de los Reyes in their wedding finery. Bree was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. And Forbes and Kamar were no slouches, either!
In the episodes, which will air during the second week of November, Jessica wears a gown straight out of classic, retro Hollywood — something Jean Harlow might wear. (When I talk about retro Hollywood, I mean the 1930s, not the ’70s.) The guys wore tuxes with regular ties.
Music played in the background as ABC photographer Donna Svennevik snapped away. It was clear that these three actors adore each other. Any on-camera animosity between their characters is just acting. Here, posing for the camera, they were just Bree, Forbes and Kamar, not Jessica, Nash and Antonio.
At a professional photo shoot, there is always a team of helpers with combs and makeup brushes standing by for touch-ups. (If only that were true in the real world!) For example, the photographer might say, “There’s a little shine on Forbes’ nose.” A makeup person would rush forward and brush away that shine. Someone is always there to make sure the actors are…well, picture perfect.
Since getting a group of actors into a photo studio takes no small amount of planning and organization, ABC wanted to make the most of that opportunity and get images of the actors in as many combinations as possible in addition to solo shots. The actors changed into jeans and white shirts for a different set of shots, because wedding pictures have a limited shelf life. With that accomplished, the three really got silly, hanging all over each other for more informal, fun shots.
There are always refreshments at these sessions, so let me share something that illustrates the difference between actors and the rest of us. I was (as is often the case) somewhat hungry when I arrived, so I helped myself to as many little Danish pastries as I could without looking like too much of a pig. The actors, on the other hand, steered entirely clear of that sinfully sweet spread. Well, at least until Kamar broke down and snacked on a few…grapes.
