Robert Newman – FYI
If I could only keep one household appliance, it would be: My French-press coffee maker.
Favorite book: A little-known book called The Sparrow, by Mary Doria Russell, and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, along with the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I re-read them all last year.
Favorite item of clothing: I have more suits then you might expect and always feel good wearing them, but I can’t stand wearing a tuxedo. Too much time in a tux as Josh, I suppose.
Most treasured possession: Possessions don’t really have a lot of meaning to me. I have a quote from scripture in my dressing room. “A man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Luke 12:15.
Biggest regret: None. I feel quite blessed to have lived the life I have so far. I’m really looking forward to the rest.
Something that makes me see red: The number of magazines and credit-card offers I throw in the recycling bin every week at the post office; telemarketers; the amount of money spent on political campaigns; people who don’t care.
Favorite place in my house: Our new shower. I love really hot water just pouring down on me.
Worst job I ever had: Peeling and cutting onions for hot dogs at a Bat-A-Ball place in the San Fernando Valley. I quit after one day.
Sound that most annoys me: Right now, it’s the constant blowing sound in my new dressing room. It’s like white noise. I want it to stop, but it never does. Also the thumping of the bass all afternoon when BET is doing a concert downstairs. I love all music, but it’s like having a neighbor who’s constantly blasting music. It was really cool for about two weeks.
First thing I do when I wake up in the morning: On work days, I catch a 5:21 train. I set two alarms for 5 a.m., so I only have about 10 minutes to get up, get dressed and leave the house. If I gave myself any more time, I’m sure I’d go back to sleep.
Last thing I do before I go to bed: Kiss my wife and kids.
Favorite weekend activity: I love it when we can all sleep in on a Saturday and just have a lazy day. Our weeks are so full.
Greatest love: Being a dad.
Quality I like most in a mate: Being able to honestly talk though issues.
Cause I most believe in: How can you possibly put any one cause above another? I’d love to see universal health care in this country, at least for children, in the near future.
Favorite TV show: I can’t believe they canceled THE WEST WING — such a smart show. But, evidently, America prefers EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION.
Best quality: The ability to see all sides of an issue.
Worst quality: My [lack of] memory for names.
Best one word or short phrase that describes me: Introvert.
My epitaph: “He did his best.”
