Putting the Beautiful in B&B

Comments

GENERAL HOSPITAL star-turned fashionista Finola Hughes (Anna) went behind the scenes at her pal Susan Flannery‘s (Stephanie) show, THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, to work a little of the magic she performs weekly on her Style channel show, HOW DO I LOOK?

B&B production coordinator (and Flannery friend) Diane Moss was nominated by B&B production office staffer Casey Kasprzyk to go through the same transformation Hughes’ show offers style-challenged individuals. But this was no ordinary makeover — Moss was getting revamped in preparation for her walk down the red carpet at this year’s Daytime Emmy awards.

Soap Opera Weekly: Why did your friend nominate you for a makeover?
Diane Moss: I’m getting close to 30 and I think I just needed some sort of change. I had gotten into a major car accident and I was a little down. I think I was in a rut.

Weekly: How did the process go for you?
Moss: Oh, my God. It was so crazy. I went to school for film and television production, so I’m used to being behind the scenes. The experience was very surreal for me, because they kept calling me “talent.” “Talent coming through.” I was like, “Excuse me? No.” They were asking me to move my shirt so they could clip on the mic, and I was like, “I used to be the one doing this. This is so weird for me.”

Weekly: So the tables were turned on you?
Moss: Yeah, they really were. It was a great experience, though. The first day was the intervention with Finola and then with Susan, Casey and the stylist. They all told me, “You’re not in college anymore.” I had the same pair of sneakers that I had in college. Susan’s always been a good friend of mine and she really wanted to do this. She opened my eyes…I respect her so much. She was like, “Throw out these shoes. Look at how ratty they are.” I was like, “I know, but I only wear them when I go on an airplane. I need comfortable shoes on an airplane.” She was like, “It doesn’t matter. You can still have cute shoes. Throw them out!” It was funny. They were all like, “You need to start dressing more professionally. You’re in the business world.”
Weekly: What happened after the intervention?
Moss: Each of them went shopping for me, and they chose three outfits: an Emmy gown, a nice date outfit and something more casual. Meanwhile, I got my teeth whitened. They gave me a spray tan. I got my nails done. They really do everything. Then Finola showed me each person’s collection, but I didn’t know whose it was. I had to try on all the clothes and pick which collection I liked the best and try to guess whose it was. I was worried about liking the gown from one collection but the other outfits from another collection, but it worked out, because I really liked everything in the collection I picked. It was perfect for me.

Weekly: Without giving away whose it was, did you guess correctly?
Moss: No, I did not. I was quite surprised. The person came forward, and I was like, “Oh, my gosh.” The really neat thing was that my mom was able to fly in from Arizona for the reveal. She and 15 of my friends were there. I think they were all totally shocked, because I’ve never done anything different with my hair. I don’t really care about fashion all that much. It’s so ironic, because I work for THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL.

Weekly: Are you now more attuned to fashion?
Moss: Definitely. It gave me a little bit more self-confidence. I’m still the same me inside, but it helps you improve your look a little bit so you can carry on with confidence.
