PASSIONS’ “Hidden” Love

Comments

With Chad stepping out on Whitney, Charles Divins finds himself romancing a voiceless mystery woman — or, perhaps a man? — who likes to hide behind the camera.

“It’s weird,” Divins admits. “The first time we did it, they brought in a dummy, a doll, that I could love on. I said, ‘Yo, we can’t be doing this!’ But it’s also awkward playing that sort of thing to the camera. It’s different when you talk into the camera than when you’re making love to it. I try not to watch those scenes.”

He might be the only one! Fans are so hooked on the mystery that they’re barely slamming the philanderer for cheating. “The response has been more, ‘What the hell is going on?’ or ‘Who do you think it is?'” Divins reveals with a laugh. “It’s like a murder mystery. People are guessing it’s one person or hoping it’s another. It’s exciting, because they get to put their two cents in.”

There’s even speculation on set. “That’s how I knew it was an interesting storyline,” Divins says. “When you have actors and the people who work here actually interested, that’s when you know.”

So is Chad turning down the bad-guy path now that he knows he’s Alistair’s son? “No one’s perfect,” Divins shrugs, citing Chad’s sexual compulsion. “Everybody’s got skeletons. But it’s fun to play the duality of the character. Chad now has this need outside of Whitney, and the regret and guilt of trying to hide that, while trying to fulfill it at all costs.”

It may just cost him Whitney!
