Not Without My Daughter (Or Son)

Comments

When AMC’s Annie fled Pine Valley with Emma (the second time she’s taken the girl on the run), she joined a long list of Pine Valley residents who’ve kidnapped their own kids. Here’s a look back at eight such instances.1. In 1983, Angie’s father, Les Baxter, arranged for Jesse and Angie’s newborn, Frankie, to be put up for adoption. Determined to recover their son, Angie and Jesse kidnapped him and, after beating kidnapping charges, retained custody of the child.

2. In 1988, a cash-strapped Travis arranged for the kidnapping of his own daughter, Bianca, to scam an insurance company for the ransom money. The plan went haywire when the faux kidnapper went rogue, but Bianca was ultimately returned safely to Erica — who promptly went on the run with Bianca herself, afraid of what Travis may do next.

3. In 1994, Brooke hopped on a bus with young son Jamie and headed out of Pine Valley under pressure from Tad to abort her life-threatening ectopic pregnancy. With cops in hot pursuit, Brooke and Jamie hid out in an abandoned farmhouse. Edmund found her and convinced her to return home with her son for much-needed surgery.

4. In 1996, Edmund and Maria were overjoyed to be adopting Kelsey and Bobby’s biological babe, Sam, with whom they quickly bonded. But when Kelsey changed her mind about authorizing the adoption, Maria was devastated and fled with the baby. However, Edmund caught up to her at the airport and took the boy out of his wife’s arms to hand him over to Kelsey. Eventually, Kelsey changed her mind again and the Greys legally adopted Sam.
5. In 2004, a grief-stricken Bianca thought that baby Bess was Miranda and took her home from the hospital, sending her presumed parents, JR and Babe, into a tizzy. Though Binks was forced to give Bess back to the Chandlers, it would later be revealed that Bianca’s maternal instincts had been spot-on (Bess = Miranda, indeed).

6. In 2004, Babe spied Ace Buchanan on a trip to OLTL’s Llanview and knew instantly that he was her own presumed-dead son. She and Jamie took the boy, whom they called James (but who now goes by AJ) and went on the run but eventually the cops (and JR) caught up to them.

7. In 2006, when viewers were introduced to Annie and young Emma, it was revealed that Annie had gone on the run with her daughter to protect her from Annie’s pedophile ex-husband, Terry (Emma’s legal father). Jonathan ended up killing Terry to protect Lily.

8. Though her scheme was derailed, Janet plotted in 2010 to kidnap both her daughter, Amanda, and grandson, Trevor. In her delusion, Janet thought that Amanda would jump at the chance to go to Europe with her to seek supermodel stardom, but Amanda refused to leave with her deranged mom. Janet was prepared to use force to get her way, but Jake managed to disarm her.
