2001
Beth grew closer to Edmund as she mourned for Jim. Despite the disapproval of Phillip and Beth’s mother Lillian, Beth moved with Edmund to San Cristobel with the children. Jealous of Lizzie’s growing attachment to Edmund, Phillip brought Lizzie and James back to Springfield. Beth and Edmund wed, but Beth soon discovered that Edmund had kidnapped his sister-in-law Cassie, and he trapped Beth as well until she escaped back to Springfield. Lizzie unwittingly told Edmund her mother had gone to Mexico to get a quickie divorce. Beth “drowned” in a flash flood while trying to run away from him.

2002
Lizzie learned that Beth was actually alive and well in jail, but living as “Lorelei,” an alternate personality, created by Beth in the traumatic aftermath of surviving the flood. Phillip and Lizzie were both outraged over Lorelei’s involvement with Bill Lewis, which led to marriage. In an attempt to get attention, Lizzie shoplifted and blackmailed her grandfather Alan into buying her a car in exchange for not telling anybody that he had faked a heart attack. Beth eventually put Lorelei to rest and regained her sanity. Lizzie developed a crush on Shayne Lewis.

2003
After having been sent to boarding school, Lizzie was forced to return home after allegedly setting her dorm room on fire. Having developed an almost obsessive crush on Shayne, she drew a map to the Bauer cabin, providing Ben Reade the perfect way to come between his ex-girlfriend Marina and Shayne. Nevertheless, Shayne and Marina prevailed, and Lizzie focused her attention on Olivia, who was pregnant with Phillip’s child. Lizzie arranged for Olivia to trip on a carpet and fall down the stairs of the Beacon Hotel. Lizzie’s actions backfired however, when her father pressed Olivia to get engaged. After weeks of making threatening remarks towards Olivia, Lizzie left a doll’s head in Olivia’s baby crib, seeking to intimidate her. Olivia left town, thrilling Lizzie. She set her sights on friend Tammy’s boyfriend Joey when he and Tammy started having relationship trouble.
2004
Lizzie grew suspicious when Olivia returned to Springfield, claiming to have suffered a miscarriage. She and the other Spauldings were horrified when Olivia married Phillip while he was locked up at the psychiatric hospital Ravenwood. Lizzie turned to alcohol to get attention, and was almost drugged at a rave. When Lizzie learned that Olivia really went away with the baby to keep her safe from Lizzie and the rest of the Spauldings, she kidnapped baby Emma. Lizzie then took the child to her father at Ravenwood and informed him of Olivia’s deception, forcing Olivia to come clean. Lizzie spotted Tammy kissing Edmund and spilled to Joey, splitting up the couple. Lizzie schemed to give Joey every advantage to win the Spaulding internship contest. He succeeded, but also reconciled with Tammy. Lizzie drugged Joey in a hotel room and told him the next morning they had sex. Phillip paid off Joey with a scholarship and forced him to leave town. Lizzie almost fatally injured Sandy Foster in a hit-and-run accident, unintentionally causing the reveal that Sandy is not really Reva’s long lost son Jonathan. She also introduced Tammy to JB, a.k.a. Jonathan, who seduced his cousin to get back at his mother and uncle Edmund. Meanwhile, Phillip descended into madness again and tried to convince Lizzie to go away with him and her siblings. Lizzie refused to go with him. Phillip was shot dead a few hours later, rocking Lizzie and almost all the residents of Springfield.

2005
Withdrawn since her father’s murder, Lizzie threw herself into the work Phillip left for her: running Springfield’s favorite restaurant, Company. She renamed the spot Elizabeth & Company, and butted heads with Buzz Cooper and his family, the former owners. She hatched a plan to seduce Buzz’s son Coop, so he would help her control the business. Unbeknownst to her, however, Coop planned to seduce her, in hopes she would sell the restaurant back to his family. Lizzie testified in her father’s murder trial, but her surprise confession was that she killed Carl, not Phillip.
