I have had a few days to think about what the death of Ben/Hal means to me.
I am at a loss to describe it.
A fine person is gone, because the hole in his soul was too deep to fill with mere earthly things. Some are just more sensitive to this earth and its many tragedies and adding to personal tragedies can be almost unbearable. There is no peace inside. Only a hurting. And you look for a way out. And the sad thing is that Ben/Hal found his way out. Permanently.
Many will try to look for answers in this tragic death. Many may say why didn’t I see this coming, or stop it. Many will never realize that there was nothing they could do here on earth. It would have taken divine intervention, something we are not capable of understanding or delivering.
Most of all…I pray that Ben is sleeping peacefully, no longer hurting in his heart and soul. And I pray that God as I understand him, is holding Benjamin now, healing this sweet mans soul so that he may know what true peace is, finally…
I have followed Hal for years and years, and he will be sorely missed that is for sure. I agree with others, send him off heroically.. He deserves that much at least. Don’t recast. There will never be another…..

It was on this website that I first read about Benjamin’s tragic death.. My heart is heavy and I will miss his portrayal of Hal Munson on As the World Turns. I have watched him play his character for many years, with a creative force like none other. He will be sadly missed.

I was so shocked and saddened to read in the paper last weekend that Benjamin Hendrickson had committed suicide. I have watched As The World Turns for close to 50 years – my mom watched faithfully for years and after she passed away way too young at 50 years of age in 1970, I “took over” for her. I’ve always loved the character of Hal. I’ve always sensed a sadness in him, never sure if it was his great acting ability or if there was truly an underlying sadness in his personal life that just came through. I remember his terrible loss when his brother died. And I understand his mother passed away in the past few years.
Sometimes people just have so much trouble accepting loss in their lives. Please extend my deepest condolences to his personal family and friends and his ATWT family.
