Melody Thomas Scott: Top Five
With 28 years of Newman drama behind her, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS’ Melody Thomas Scott reveals her most memorable moments portraying beloved heroine Nikki.1. “I had a lot of fun down in the sewer with the rats and Sharon!”
2. “I have to put the stripping in there! But not because it was something good. I was absolutely terrified. I am not a good dancer, so all those years Nikki was a stripper…it was quite stress-inducing.”
3. “Nikki and Victor’s first wedding in ’84. I’ll always remember that. It was amazing. It was in the Colonnade Room and it was billed as ‘The
Greatest Wedding on Television’ — not daytime, but television in general. My gown was specially made and cost $30,000, which was very expensive at that time. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun.”
4. “I’m going way back now. Do you remember Rick Daros, played by Randy Holland, who was also one of the writers? We went on location and I had to wear this scuba suit. Rick shot Victor with a harpoon and I can’t remember the half of it (laughs), but we had a lot of fun on the remote at the beach.”
5. “Being a ‘Moonie,’ as we called it. Years ago, Paul and Nikki were members of a cult (the New World Commune). That was interesting. At the end of the storyline, the house where the cult membership lived burned down. We had the fire on the set and the safety fireman said, ‘If you stay on your mark, you’re going to be fine. Don’t worry or freak out and think you’re going to be on fire.’ That sounded good, but when the camera finally cut to where we were supposed to be standing, all of us were gone, gone, gone! It was so hot and the flames were almost licking at us. It was, ‘Ack, no! We’re out of here!'”
