Meet Y&R’s Lisa Canning

Comments

Soap Opera Digest: Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, Lisa. How are you feeling?
Lisa Canning: Excited. Cool. It’s all good. But be careful. I just got off the set and I was crying, so if I start crying, just know it’s totally professional.Digest: Three days on the set and they already have you in tears [as Adrienne]?
Canning: All I do is cry! Cry, cry, cry, cry, cry!

Digest: Very different than being an on-air correspondent.
Canning: Where all I did was laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh, laugh [laughs].Digest: Tell us about Adrienne.
Canning: All I can tell you is that she is a mysterious newcomer to Genoa City. I’ve been forbidden [to say anything else].Digest: Well, we know that Adrienne meets Malcolm when she arrives in Genoa City. How difficult is it to be caught between Shemar Moore [Malcolm] and Keith Hamilton Cobb [Damon]?
Canning: How difficult a job is it really? [laughs]? They’re both fine, generous, forthcoming and helpful. Everybody has been. It has been a wonderful experience. I have absolutely no complaints.Digest: Sounds like things could get spicy. Are you ready for your first soap opera love scene?
Canning: Oh, please? Are you kidding? A little love in the afternoon? I’m all there!Digest: What does your family think about you landing this role?
Canning: All they want to know is who I’m kissing and am I going to take my clothes off [laughs]. I said to them, ‘It’s Y&R, not cable!’ Thank goodness [laughs]!Digest: Acting is nothing new to you, having played the short-term role of Meg on GENERAL HOSPITAL in 1993, along with your numerous episodic and sitcom appearances. How is Y&R different?
Canning: It’s a well-oiled machine. It moves so quickly. But I have no complaints. After all, this is the No. 1 soap opera on daytime TV, so it’s all good. Acting has always been a love of mine, but all the other things that I’ve done, [reporting for] ET, VH1 and on and on, have kept me busy and focused on other things. But this has always been one of my loves. I love what this character is about and when it came up, I told my agent. “Let’s go after this one,” and it all came together.Digest: Any hints at how long Adrienne will be sticking around?
Canning: Anything is possible. We’ll see what happens to her….
