LOST AND FOUND: YOUNG AND RESTLESS’s Most Daring Rescues

Comments

After surviving a plane crash, a seriously injured Nick Newman was recently found in the woods by Logan Armstrong — a beautiful woman who just happened to be a doctor and knew how to cure ailments using plants and herbs. But Nick is not the only character who barely got out of a dangerous situation alive. Here’s a look back at 10 of Y&R’s most memorable rescues.1. Chris Foster Avoids Being Sold Into Prostitution, 1979
While doing an investigation on prostitution, Chris befriended two teenage hookers who were involved in a prostitution ring run by Rose DeVille. Rose had her goon, Vince, snatch the young reporter so Rose could make Chris a prostitute overseas. Chris’s husband, Snapper, and his friend Brock desperately searched for her, but when they questioned Rose, Ms. DeVille claimed she hadn’t seen Chris. However, when Rose addressed Snapper by name, the guys realized that she knew exactly who they were. Snapper and Brock rescued Chris, and Rose and Vince were arrested.

2. Katherine Chancellor Goes Overboard, 1980
While on a cruise, a distraught Kay was so confused over her feelings for suitors Derek and Douglas that she decided to take her life and jumped off the ship. She was presumed dead, but was, in fact, rescued by Felipe Ramirez, a Cuban refugee who was hiding out in Jamaica. He then risked his life to get her to a hospital when she cut her leg. She fell for him, but he ultimately decided to stay on the island, while she returned to Genoa City.

3. Michael Escapes Victor’s Dungeon, 1981
Victor Newman was livid when he learned that his pregnant wife, Julia, had been seeing another man. So furious, in fact, that he imprisoned his rival, Michael, in a dungeon he had built in his own home. When a horrified Julia learned what Vic had been up to, she helped Michael escape. However, she was caught in the middle of the guys’ scuffle, which caused her to fall and later miscarry the baby.
4. Victor Rescues Nikki, 1984
Nikki Reed really got herself into hot water when she became involved with shady Rick Daros. Rick took her to St. Croix and held her hostage. She managed to get him to untie her, then hit him over the head with a pan and raced out. Unfortunately, he recovered in time to recapture her. The next day, Rick held Nikki at gunpoint and planned to take her “scuba diving” using a tank without oxygen. But before Nikki could sleep with the fishes, Victor, Andy and Paul arrived to save her. During the confrontation, Victor was shot in the groin, but recovered. Later that year, Victor and Nikki wed for the first time.

5. Lauren Fenmore Is Buried Alive, 1986
While performing with Danny Romalotti, Lauren gained an obsessive fan in Shawn Garrett. Shawn did his best to undermine Lauren and Paul’s relationship, and even had their apartment bugged. When Shawn learned that Lauren didn’t reciprocate his feelings, he buried Lauren alive in San Francisco — in the grave next to his mother’s. Paul, Jazz and Andy found her but Lauren, who was pregnant, lost her and Paul’s child.

6. Caged-In Carlton, 1988-89
When Brad Carlton rejected his ex-wife, Lisa, she retaliated by locking him in a cage in a remote cabin. Meanwhile, she hired Rich Little (!) to impersonate Brad so that his wife, Traci, thought he’d left town to be with Lisa. As Lisa “cared” for her prisoner, Traci began divorce proceedings. Lisa then re-created her and Brad’s wedding night. He soon became ill, but even then, Lisa refused to let him go (though she did get him some meds). She was finally caught when Lauren, who was on a ski trip with Jack, saw Lisa and followed her home. Lisa shoved Lauren into the cage and turned on the gas, but then Jack arrived. He snatched Lisa’s gun away from her and rescued Brad and Lauren just in time. Once back in Genoa City, Brad was shocked to learn that he and Traci were no longer married.
7. Kay’s Double Trouble, 1990
In 1989, con artist Clint Radison hired waitress Marge Cotrooke to pose as Kay so that he could steal the Chancellor fortune. Meanwhile, Clint had his goons, Lil and Morey, kidnap the real Kay and Esther and hold them hostage in a deserted cabin. However, when a pregnant Esther had stomach pains, Lil took her to the hospital. There, Esther saw Brock and alerted him to Kay’s plight. Brock enlisted Marge to help him rescue Kay; she did so by staging a brawl at the cabin, then switching clothes with her look-alike so that Kay could escape.

8. Sheila Strikes Out, 1992
When Scott told Sheila that he wanted a divorce, the devastated psycho forced rival Lauren to drive to Michigan. There, Sheila held her mother, Molly, and Lauren prisoner in a farmhouse. The situation went from bad to worse when a fire broke out. Thankfully, Paul came to the rescue again and saved Lauren and Molly. When a body was discovered in the ruins, everyone assumed it was Sheila’s … but she soon turned up alive in Los Angeles (and on BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL).
9. Victor’s Just Desert, 1999
After Victor’s plane crashed in the New Mexico desert, he was “rescued” by a loner named Chet. However, once Chet learned who Victor was, he refused to let Newman leave. During his ordeal, Victor wisely befriended Chet’s girlfriend, Ramona, who made several attempts to help Victor contact his family. Eventually, Chet fell into a canyon while fighting with the pair, and Victor was finally able to go home.

10. Kevin Gets Fired Up, 2003
Colleen and Sierra didn’t trust Lily’s new, older boyfriend, Kevin, though Lily didn’t listen to their warnings. When she skipped school to be with him, Colleen and Sierra told Lily’s parents, who threatened Kevin with arrest. Kevin attempted to get revenge by locking Colleen in a freezer at Gina’s restaurant and then setting the place on fire. Thankfully, J.T. managed to find Colleen and pulled her out of the freezer before she perished.
