Leaving On A Jet Plane
“I did the single-girl-in-New-York thing and grew up on this show, so leaving it is a big deal. Everyone has been like, ‘Oh, Terri, we’re so sad, but we’re so excited for you; it’s a whole new chapter in your life, your adventure.’ So here’s my joke, here’s how my new chapter starts: ‘Excuse me, Miss, you’re going to have to remove seven pounds from your luggage before we can check your bag [laughs].’ That is how big and heavy my one suitcase was when I went to the airport to head out to California. I just looked at the people behind me and went, ‘Who wants a pair of shoes? Size 6, anyone?'”My last days there were really emotional, but great. It just put a cherry on top of this beautiful sundae that I had so much fun devouring. Simone … they let me do whatever I wanted with her, character-wise. And the friends I made on this show are friends for life, there’s no question about that. Amelia Heinle [ex-Mia], Miss Victoria Newman [on YOUNG AND RESTLESS], she’s excited to help me move into my house. She’s like, ‘I can’t believe I have my friend back!’ We’re happy to be back on the same coast. Alicia [Minshew, Kendall], my God. After we had my cake [at my good-bye party] she just hugged me so hard and whispered in my ear, ‘What am I gonna do here without you?’ [Starts crying] We care so much about each other.
“And there are so many other people, too. Wil de Vry [ex-Michael; now BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL’s Storm] is one of my dear friends. And I’m a crew girl; some of my dearest friends are crew members. Eric, my cameraman, I call him Skippy — we’ve traded five e-mails already. Joyce and Deborah from hair and makeup, they flew to California to do my hair and makeup for my wedding. I mean, these are real friends, you know? Every day when I call for my call time, [AMC staffers] Nick and Diana, one of them would answer the phone to tell me and we would talk for a half hour. It’s so silly but I miss that phone call; I took it so for granted. But that’ll just make me pick up the phone more, send more e-mails.”When I think about my favorite times on AMC, many things come to mind. Romantically, by far, [my favorite love interest was] Tad, because we had the chemistry and the comedic stuff. I loved fighting with Bobbie Eakes [Krystal]; those couple of months where I got to do those ridiculous things were so much fun. I loved, back in the day, when we did the fantasies; Simone’s fantasies were always so much fun, those dream sequences we used to do. My favorite people to work with, hands-down, were the original Fusion girls: Alicia, Rebecca [Budig, ex-Greenlee]; Amelia and myself had a blast every scene, every day, every time that we were together.”Who I will miss in the hallway most of all? Probably Cameron Mathison [Ryan] for my afternoon, morning and evening hugs. And I will miss my spa treatments, getting my hair and makeup done and looking so ravishingly beautiful. I will miss that like crazy!”But I don’t think there’s anything I won’t miss, to be honest. The last days that I worked, there were so many emotional good-byes. [Directors] Conal [O’Brien] and Angela [Tessinari] just crushed me. We get so busy trying to keep the machine running that all of a sudden to get these beautiful words spoken to me by so many people — assistant directors saying, ‘I’m going to miss seeing your name on the list, knowing I’m gonna laugh today.’ You know? My crew going, ‘What I like best is that I know when you come on the floor, we’re gonna have a good time [starts crying again]…. “The love I have for these people, I have never experienced anything in my career like it, and I don’t think I ever will again. The beautiful thing with my life is that my husband is in New York right now on business. He said, ‘Do you want to come with me and go say hi to everybody?’ With the move and everything, I couldn’t make it, but I’ll have an opportunity next month and probably another one the month after that. I made more friends at ALL MY CHILDREN who are life friends than I can even wrap my mind around.”
