It’s Only My Opinion: General Hospital Delivers Karmic Payoff While Y&R & Other Soaps Are Stalling
General Hospital is setting up major karmic payback for some of its biggest players, while The Bold and the Beautiful‘s Brooke may finally be headed for a reckoning. But The Young and the Restless, Days of Our Lives, and Beyond the Gates are still dragging out storylines that should have paid off by now.
Legal Action
GH’s Portia and Curtis have been insufferable, putting their own needs above their daughter’s (and unborn child’s). Trina finally had enough, asserting she wants “distance” from her divorced parents so she can focus on her own life.
Trina: “At the baby shower you were screaming at each other, and what was I doing? Getting ready to intervene. But then you said you were glad my dad didn’t raise me.”
Portia: “I never should have said that.”
Trina: “I’m glad you did. The truth hit me. It is not my job to fix your relationship, so I’m done trying.”
As great as those scenes were, the real payoff will come when Curtis learns Isaiah was nowhere near Route 91 when he and Jordan had their car accident (which Jordan has admitted 100 times was her fault anyway). Here’s hoping Isaiah sues Curtis into oblivion for the punch that may have cost him his surgical career.
Brook Lynn framing Willow for being the other driver led to a twist we didn’t see coming: Drew blaming his wife for the accident after Detective Joe Fitzpatrick sussed out some clues. Even the local murderer was impressed.
Sidwell: “Congressman Cain, are you framing your wife?”
Yup! Add BLQ’s dirty tricks, Michael’s machinations and Chase’s puppy dog dopiness, and it sure looks like Willow is going down for something.
Across town, Lulu Spencer has been a whiny shrew. It’s like she blames Charlotte and Rocco for growing up while she was in a coma. When Cassius revealed to Lulu and Dante where Rocco was hiding out, they went right to blaming Britt for “kidnapping” their son.
Cassius: “You two conveniently forget your son went with Britt willingly. You drove him to Britt and you want to blame her for that? If you had any guts you’d blame yourselves.”
You go, Fake Nathan! It was the first lead they had on their kid but even that wasn’t enough for Lulu to express basic human gratitude.
Lulu: “You can go now.”
Cassius (exasperated): “You’re welcome.”
Other juicy scenes coming up: Lucas and Carly’s caper to rescue Joss, Anna telling all, Danny and Charlotte on the run, and Jason’s return to PC. I’m in!
Crimes of Fashion
Like GH’s Curtis, B&B’s Brooke needs a major comeuppance and I’m here for it. Donna knew Hope was designing for Logan, so it was found money every time Brooke unwittingly said Katie needed hope for her new fashion house and Donna was like gulp.
Donna (fishing): “Things between you and Hope are fine?
Brooke: “Better than ever! Wish I could say the same about Katie. She stole my name for her company. She stole Eric. At least we don’t have to worry about poaching anymore.”
Haha, except for your daughter. B&B set up the reveal perfectly with Brooke saying how “magical” it was having Hope, Liam and Beth staying with her while Hope was on sabbatical from Forrester (but secretly creating her new label). Hope let Brooke think her half-brother Deke was the lead designer and Logan dropped their new collection the day before Forrester was set to release Eric’s couture line. The gang at Forrester thought that was annoying until…
Katie: “I would like to introduce Hope Logan and the Hope By Logan line.”
Brooke (watching the live stream): “Oh my God.”
Bingo. I’m Team Logan for all the reasons listed above, plus they seem to have found the only gay designer in L.A. (!) so kudos on hiring Deke.
Devils’ Playground
How many years will we have to wait until DAYS’ evil DiMera siblings get what’s coming to them? They are vile to Salem’s residents and worse to each other.
EJ: “You tried to murder my son! You were ‘comforting’ the poor lost girl [Sophia] and gave her guidance of the devil incarnate. You drove her to kill my son. You are filth, Kristen. I damn you to the darkest corner of hell.”
Kristen: “Sophia was nuts. I was just as horrified as you were when she tried to make Johnny a human Molotov cocktail. She’s in the river.”
EJ: “You think it was my fault Rachel was taken away from you, so you wanted me to suffer the same pain.”
And on and on it goes. Those two are long past their sell-by date: Rotten people have to pay a price or be redeemed to stay effective. Witness Marlena’s evolution from quiet doctor to destructive devil and back again in the special episode marking Deidre Hall’s 50th anniversary.
Marlena: “Everything I went through showed me how lucky I was to have John.”
He did exorcise her, so she’s not wrong. If only John was around to take down his other long-time ex — the murderous Kristen.
Beyond Belief
BTG’s Bill is itching for everyone to find out he and Dani had sex in an elevator during the tornado. He can’t even fake it with his gold-digging bride (who thinks he was alone in the storm).
Hayley: “Where did my man’s appetite go? You barely touched your eggs and you’ve barely touched me, either. You haven’t been yourself since the tornado.”
Bill (flashing back to smooching Dani in the elevator): “Forgive me for not bouncing back from a life-and-death experience on your timeline.”
“Life” being the operative word there, since Bill wants his old one back. Dani insists they are “happily-ever-divorced” but her claims fall on deaf ears with her suspicious daughters. Naomi told her mom that her dad shared a sex dream he had about her and Dani stormed over to her ex’s office.
Bill (on phone): “I’m going to have to call you back. Another tornado just blew in.”
Dani accused him of “peacocking” and dropping hints about their liaison. Bill retorted that she’s hot when she’s mad and a part of her wants to be back in that elevator.
Dani: “There’s no way in hell I will let you blow up my life again.”
Bill: “If I blow up your marriage it will save you the trouble.”
In came Hayley, demanding to know what was going on. Dani took one look at the trench coat she was sporting with nothing on underneath and scolded Bill for not even buying the girl “a new fantasy.” That triangle is gangbusters, but there has to be movement with Hayley’s scheme to kill Bill. He’s supposed to be this killer shark who’s got everyone’s number, but his own wife is scamming him and that diminishes him. Hayley needs some kind of payback for all her dirty deeds.
Dani (to Hayley): “Word to the wise, little girl: Nothing ever tops the original.”
Like that, only meaner.
Heavy Mental
Y&R is trying to make us believe two psychotic murderers have returned to Genoa City and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Matt Clark’s “amnesia” is supposed to make him a viable love interest for Phyllis while Patty Williams has been allegedly released by some fakakta clinic. Her first act was to kidnap and drug Jack Abbott so they might want to rethink that discharge.
Patty (to Jack): “I am going to help you heal. You will see that Diane’s love was all a lie. You don’t know what real love is. I am here to show you as your lover, your confidante, your wife.”
Compounding this far-fetched lunacy is Diane being held hostage by a creepy doctor in a house with windows big enough to escape from, yet she’s trying to outsmart him. Jack actually met with the doc/kidnapper at the Abbott mansion and this was the exchange:
Jack: “I would like to speak to my wife directly.”
Doctor: “Her treatment team doesn’t think that’s a good idea.”
Jack: “Would you at least tell me the name of the doctor treating her?”
Doctor: “That’s confidential.”
The plan is for Kyle to rescue his mother while Jack allows Patty to live in his house and maul him 24/7.
Jack: “You are guaranteeing no harm comes to Diane?”
Patty: “My word is my bond. Diane is getting the best care.”
Yes, trust the word of a mental patient. The Abbotts are one of GC’s richest families but they have no cops or security teams following Patty or the doctor so they can locate Diane. It’s just Jack and Kyle cosplaying as the Wisconsin Hardy Boys while fans wait patiently for karma to come for Patty.
The best thing about nonsensical stories? When they end.
Hey. It’s only my opinion.
