Carly clashed with Emily over how to help Sonny. Emily scolded him for whining about his therapy and stormed out. Carly backed her up — and so did Sonny! He recapped his relationship fears, and suggested that opening his heart to Emily “let the sickness in.” Carly told him he should stick with therapy. Sonny admitted it just might help — but he’ll never be the kind of “prince” Emily deserves. He recounted his anger at Lainey’s willingness to boost his prescription, and Carly defended the doc. “Some things can’t be fixed,” he said. Meaning? “Like what happened to my mother.” Sonny said Lainey blamed his mother, Adela, for not protecting him, and Carly noted, “Maybe she had a point.” Carly boasted that if she had known Adela, she would have kicked her butt “to Buffalo and back.” Sonny bristled. Carly wondered why his mom didn’t fight to protect them or flee, and said she would never have allowed anyone to hit her children and live. Sonny recalled that his mother used to say, “We’re as strong as we need to be,” just like Carly does. Carly told Sonny he “might as well have been alone.” Defensive, Sonny said his super cop dad, Deke, would have found them if they fled. Back then, nobody got counseling, you just dealt with it in-house. “Your mother abandoned you and she never even left the house,” Carly said. “She loved me,” Sonny countered, with a tear running down his cheek. “Why didn’t she fight for me?” He confessed he doesn’t want to end up hating his mother, but Carly said he needs to see Adela and Deke as they really were, neither demonized nor idolized. Sonny called Carly a “good woman” with “fire,” and his kids are lucky to have her. “That means a lot to me,” she said, adding, “You’re ready to get better.” Carly told him he has to make the choice to be happy. She extended him the medication, and he took the bottle. But…?

Colleen eavesdropped as Nikolas told Alfred he liked having Emily around. She interrupted to take John for a walk, but Emily arrived. Nik gave Colleen the day off and invited Emily to see the stables with John. Alfred told Colleen that Nik and Emily will soon be a couple again. Emily worried that John would be afraid of the horses, so they left him alone in his playpen. Fearing Helena’s reaction to Emily, Colleen mulled setting up that “snip” Emily to look like a threat to John’s safety.

Elizabeth took Patrick’s blood sample for analysis while Alan explained the anti-retrovirus protocol. Frustrated, Patrick knocked over an instrument tray, attracting Robin’s attention. He confessed he’d never thought about his own mortality, and asked her what to expect. She suggested denial, paranoia, anger, regret, fear and acceptance. But not knowing/ignoring the problem is worse. Alan brought Patrick his meds — which triggered a flashback for Robin of Alan giving the same speech to Stone. Then Alan assured Patrick he can continue working at GH. Patrick suggested he now understands Robin better — there’s always a low-level fear of passing on the disease. Robin promised that dealing eventually becomes part of who you are.

Sam delivered some files to Lucky, who hinted that he suspected she stole Jason’s file. An offended Sam pointed out Jason broke up with her — and besides, you coppers will never get nuthin’ on him! Lucky boasted that he saved Jason’s life, but she scoffed at his version of events. Then Lucky checked the case file and saw something unsettling. Sam ran into Jason in the elevator — which got stuck. Sam recapped her bad day, and Jason offered to help her pass tomorrow’s G.E.D. exam. She fretted that she never gets what she wants. Later, Lucky went home and told Liz there was no bullet wound in Manny — Jason killed him, so Lucky’s promotion was a lie.
