General Hospital Exclusive: What’s Next For Trina/Kai, Jason/Sasha and Liz/Lucky!

Some new (and renewed!) romances are getting underway on General Hospital. This week, Trina Robinson and Kai Taylor (Tabyana Ali and Jens Austin Astrup, l.) shared their first kiss, while the previous week, Jason Morgan and Sasha Gilmore (Steve Burton and Sofia Mattsson) locked lips at the PCPD (albeit a smooch staged for Willow’s benefit), and former spouses Elizabeth Webber and Lucky Spencer (Rebecca Herbst and Jonathan Jackson) took a tender buss stop for the first time in well over a decade. Soap Opera Digest got the inside scoop from the show’s head-writing team, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten, about what fans can expect next from the trio of pairings.
Trina and Kai
It’s been just over a year since Trina lost the love of her life, Spencer Cassadine, to his presumed death in Paris. And though things between PCU students Trina and Kai got off to a rocky start, they’ve been growing closer. “Kai has upended Trina’s world,” the writers say. “When he came into her life, she was still grieving Spencer, with little reason to think she was close to moving on. Kai changed all that. He’s handsome, charismatic, sensitive — and so far as she knows, has no baggage whatsoever… except for a dream he can’t quite let go of. He’s casting about for a new direction when he learns of a cutting-edge medical procedure that could restore his ability to play football. But it’s a risky operation, made even riskier by the source of the opportunity — a person who has an ulterior motive for helping Kai. This opportunity comes with strings attached, and those strings may drag Kai and Trina into a conflict that isn’t theirs; one that could destroy them just as they’re getting started.”
Jason and Sasha
Pregnant by the MIA Michael, Sasha has found herself increasingly intertwined with Jason’s. Note Korte and Van Etten, “Sasha’s baby represents a dynamic intersection of Port Charles history and bloodlines. Her baby is at once a Scorpio, a Quartermaine, a Spencer, and a (spiritually speaking) Corinthos. Sasha knows this — and knows that what becomes of her baby will be of great interest to all of those clans.
“Jason knows this, too,” they continue. “In his final moments in Port Charles, Michael charged Jason with looking after Sasha and her baby — though he didn’t exactly request that Jason assume paternity of the baby. The misapprehension caused by Cody will have fallout across the canvas — and even to those not on it. Should it come out, the truth about the baby’s paternity could have big ramifications for Drew and Willow’s struggle against the Quartermaines — and Carly — for the futures of Wiley and Amelia.”
Could these high stakes lead to feelings blossoming between Sasha and her faux babydaddy? Offer the writers, “Jason will have Sasha’s back as she tries to keep all interested parties at bay. He raised Michael for the first year of his life, so being a surrogate father comes naturally to him. But coming together with Sasha in this way may result in unanticipated complications for them both…”
Elizabeth and Lucky
Once upon a time, Elizabeth and Lucky were a storybook duo, but the fairy tale turned sour courtesy of all types of obstacles, from Lucky’s presumed death and brainwashing by Helena to his drug addiction to infidelity on both sides, which caused the unraveling of both of their marriages. But since Lucky returned to town last year, he and Liz have slowly been rebuilding their connection, and her reaction to him coming out of his Cyrus-inflicted coma on the Thursday, February 27 episode (planting a big kiss on him!) speaks volumes.
“We’ve all been there,” Korte and Van Etten say. “An ex turns up at a vulnerable moment and suddenly you’re caught in nostalgia, old feelings masquerading as new ones. Liz and Lucky are different. Neither has ever loved another like they’ve loved each other. Their feelings for each other are as vibrant now as they ever were. It’s just that fate always intervened.” And now that Lucky is awake and the threat of Cyrus is no longer lingering over them, “They ought to have smooth sailing… emphasis on ‘ought.’ ” That’s because, the scribes hint, “Just as they’re getting back on track, Liz and Lucky may face another obstacle when another ex’s story threatens to collide with theirs….”
