General Hospital Exclusive: Dominic Zamprogna Recalls the Moment He Realized Finn Carr Was a Star

Comments

On General Hospital, Dante is walking a tightrope between his duties as Port Charles’s acting police commissioner and his responsibilities to his troubled son, Rocco. Dante’s portrayer, Dominic Zamprogna, says that the “soulful” young actor who plays Rocco, Finn Carr, has made it easy for him to bring the intense family drama to life.

Moment of Truth

Zamprogna also began acting at a young age; he was only 11 when he landed his first professional gig. Carr landed the role of Rocco when he was 15, making his Port Charles debut in July 2022. But as he’s gotten older, he’s been given richer and more emotional material to play, and he has greatly impressed his on-screen dad with how he has risen to the occasion. “He can act his butt off!” Zamprogna praises.

The actor clearly remembers the day he first realized what a powerful performer Carr was. Back in 2024, Dante was shot and lingered in a coma. “I knew how good he was on the day Dante woke up in the hospital after being shot,” Zamprogna recounts. “We hadn’t really worked together a lot up to that point and I was worried about how the scene would go, because I really wanted to play the moment of Dante and Rocco seeing each other again as a big moment. I didn’t want to just gloss over that.”

The reason Zamprogna was concerned in advance of filming the scene, he explains, is that “I really rely on my fellow actors in a scene to achieve what I’m hoping to achieve in my performance. I’m not really good if the other actor is phoning it in, if they’re not as invested. And I was pleasantly surprised because I opened my eyes and he walked in the hospital room and immediately, I was like, ‘Okay, this is awesome! This kid is in it!’ I was crying and then all of a sudden, I heard him crying. It almost took me by surprise, how in the moment he was. It was really cool. I was like, ‘Wow!’ I still think about that two years later.”

As the storyline dynamics between Rocco and Dante become more intense in the present day, “It really helps to be working with such a great actor,” Zamprogna says. “It’s really easy to play this stuff with him because it feels like our connection is automatic. He’s a really soulful guy and I feel like we’re putting some good stuff out there.”

Zamprogna also appreciates Carr when the cameras aren’t rolling. “He is such a sweet kid,” he says fondly. “He’s really wonderful, a good dude.”

The actor notes that Carr is just one of many talented rising stars in the GH cast. “All of them are awesome,” he says. “Giovanni Mazza [Gio], Braedyn Bruner [Emma], Asher Antonyzyn [Danny], Bluesy Burke [Charlotte] — they’re just a great little crew of young actors and really great to work with.”
