General Hospital Alum Kim Delaney (ex-Jackie) Arrested For Assault
Kim Delaney, who last appeared on soaps when she appeared on General Hospital as reporter Jackie Templeton, Chase’s mother, from 2020-21, was arrested on Saturday, March 29 on a charge of felony assault after an alleged domestic disturbance.
According to TMZ, Delaney was arrested at her home in Los Angeles alongside her partner, James Morgan. Delaney was charged with felony assault likely to cause great bodily injury, though a spokesperson for the Marina Del Ray Sheriff’s Station told People that Delaney was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon. Morgan, meanwhile, was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence.
Looking Back
The 63-year-old actress shot to daytime fame in 1981 when she was cast as Jenny Gardner, Tad Martin’s biological sister, on All My Children. Alongside Laurence Lau’s Greg Nelson, the duo became one of the show’s most popular supercouples, while Jenny’s touching friendship with Jesse Hubbard, played by Darnell Williams, also became the stuff of daytime legend. Delaney exited the show in 1984, and Jenny was infamously killed in Jet-Ski explosion. “I was a curious girl and I wanted to go,” she told Soap Opera Digest in 2020 of why she opted to leave when her first contract expired. She moved to Los Angeles and worked steadily in prime-time, landing the role of Diane Russell on NYPD Blue in 1995. In 1997, she won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Delaney made a surprise return to daytime in 2020 when she took over the role of Jackie, which had originally been played by Demi Moore from 1982-84. She told Soap Opera Digest shortly after making her debut, “I love working and I was very excited to get back to work…. I’m really happy and grateful and I’m having so much fun.” She described Jackie as “super-smart, maybe a little too loyal. I love that she’s a mom now because there’s a whole other dynamic that comes out of being a mom; you just learn different lessons, and I can start bringing those to the screen. And she’s strong! She doesn’t pull punches.” The character faded from the canvas without fanfare the following year.
This is not Delaney’s first brush with the law: In 2002, she was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. Per Entertainment Weekly, she pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving and was sentenced to two years’ probation, fined $300, and ordered to take a safe-driving class. In 2002, she checked into an alcohol rehab facility.
Delaney’s post recent Instagram post, shared two weeks ago, is a photo of herself with Morgan, which she captioned, “Pure love ❤️ #lucky #grateful.”
