Five Minutes With Marcy Rylan

Comments

GUIDING LIGHT’s Marcy Rylan (Lizzie) tackles everything from her real-life roommate to Lizzie’s love life to why there’s no love lost between her and Lizzie’s pooch.

Soap Opera Weekly: You just had a week’s vacation in Los Angeles. What were you doing there?
Marcy Rylan: Visiting friends. I worked on a Monday and then I didn’t work until the next Wednesday, so it was eight days off. Except for Christmas vacation, which everyone gets, that’s the longest break I’ve had in a year and a half. I went to the beach and worked out. I took this cardio kickboxing class, and there were these little old ladies behind me who were like, “GUIDING LIGHT! Lizzie!” I was sweating and totally disgusting and trying to be tough because I was kickboxing. I was like, “God, no.” We took a water break, and the instructor asked, “Are you on a soap opera?” I said, “Yes, I am.” So then he made me do a harder workout than anyone else for the rest of class!

Weekly: How did you become close to your new roommate, Mandy Bruno (Marina)?
Rylan: We hit it off in the beginning, and after a couple of months [working at GL] we started hanging out. I had to take one of my dogs back to Pennsylvania because he was a psychopath. I got the puppy in California before I started on GUIDING LIGHT, and he was doing so well. I didn’t realize that I was going to be moving to New York and working 12 hours a day; I couldn’t train him, so one of our family friends took him. I convinced Mandy to help me rent a car and drive to him to Pennsylvania. She got to see where I’m from, and we spent a lot of time together that weekend and became friends. Caitlin [Van Zandt, Ashlee] and Stephanie [Gatschet, ex-Tammy] and Mandy all hang out a lot. We need to hang out with other people!

Weekly: You work with a dog on the show, too. Any mishaps?
Rylan: The dog is too big for me. The dog hates me! Crystal Hunt (ex-Lizzie) is probably watching, going, “Somebody take that dog away from her.” I think we should do a special episode around Roxy where we just listen to Roxy’s inner monologue. It would be interesting to have Roxy hate Lizzie for abandoning her once the baby came into the picture. It was the dog and me every day and then the baby came along and I never talked to the dog anymore. As soon as the baby was “dead,” I came back to the dog, so I think Roxy’s probably harboring a lot of resentment. That would make good TV.

Weekly: Now that Lizzie has lost the baby and Jonathan, what do you want to see for her?
Rylan: I was given the impression that Lizzie was going to go evil, and I had a whole scene that aired where I was like, “I’m a Spaulding, and no one is going to walk all over me ever again.” But then, two weeks later, I was being nice again, so I don’t know which way they’re going. I would like to get really evil and do something bad. Or, on the other hand, fall in love with someone who loves her back.

Weekly: Would you like to see her romanced by any of the men on the show?
Rylan: No. Already did Jonathan, already did Coop; really, the only guy left is Remy. He is big. I am very small. I’m just trying to imagine the shoes that they would put me in to do scenes with him!

Weekly: She could date someone older.
Rylan: All of the older men on the show are so fabulous with the love interests that they already have. I think a newer, more age-appropriate man should come on the show. I think it’s going to be hard because of my size, too. But I don’t think Lizzie is going to be falling in love any time soon. She’s got some feelings to work out.

Weekly: Should she get involved in the Spaulding business?
Rylan: Yes, I want to take over the company! I want to have something to do, so then she can do something evil with it. Lizzie can’t do anything evil right now because she doesn’t have any power.
