Victor and Nikki’s first wedding on Y&R in 1984, when the tycoon married the stripper. Talk about pageantry! The show pulled out all the stops with not only staging a sumptuous event (Nikki’s wedding dress was an incredible eye-popper) but the guest list was stuffed with blasts from the pasts (the Brooks sisters, Chris, Leslie and Peggy, Casey, Brock and Derek!).

I can’t pick just one! One cannot be as big of a fan of ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Todd and Blair as I am without giving a shout-out to the “Gold Balloon” wedding of 1995, their second ceremony, but the first in which they were genuinely in love. A classic! The best soap wedding I personally attended was ALL MY CHILDREN’s Angie/Jesse ceremony in 2008, which was touched by the magic that only Debbi Morgan (Angie) and Darnell Williams (Jesse) can generate. I could absolutely not believe that I got to be on the sidelines, watching this legendary supercouple say, “I do.” But you never forget you first, and the first major soap wedding I experienced was Steve and Kayla’s 1988 wedding on DAYS. I was 11 years old and bought my very first issue of Soap Opera Digest to celebrate.

I’ll never forget the month-long extravaganza that was the PASSIONS double wedding of Ethan and Theresa and Luis and Sheridan. It was one of PASSIONS’s most epic events ever — it even made the cover of TV Guide — and it was wild. Who can forget when Ivy crashed through the church in her car to the tune of “Going To The Chapel Of Love”? Ethan and Theresa were destroyed, thanks to Rebecca and Gwen making it look like she sent the truth about Ethan’s paternity to a tabloid, and Sheridan would soon be presumed dead and go on a ridiculous, amnesiac journey through the Bermuda Triangle. But the wedding itself was campy, soapy and a whole lot of fun!

I hate to sound cliché but I have to go with Luke and Laura’s classic first wedding on GH. Not yet a soap fan, I sat by enthralled by how great the show looked being shot outside, compared to the other soaps, and I still remember the gasps from my sister and her friends when Scotty popped out of nowhere to catch the bouquet and then their fight broke out. Classic soap!

My all-time favorite was Luke and Laura’s wedding on GH. I had an appointment scheduled at my orthodontist. He had little TVs in the tray tables (pretty progressing for 1981!) and I agreed to have my appointment after school that day if I could sit and watch the whole wedding. He agreed and I did. Second would be Bo and Hope’s first wedding on DAYS, followed by Kelly and Joe’s on SANTA BARBARA (Jeffrey Osborne guest-starred and sang “On The Wings Of Love” and it was perfect).
