Editors Share Their Favorite 2017 Soap Moments

Comments

We asked our editors to share their favorite soap moments from 2017. Here’s what they had to say!

Tom Stacy – B&B
Call me a sucker but I always love B&B’s holiday moments. There’s nothing like Christmas around the Forrester piano singing carols or watching their Thanksgiving tradition about saying something nice about the person to your right — not always an easy task in that family, either!  In fact, we did that at my own Thanksgiving dinner this year and it was great. As for its shockers, I loved seeing Sheila’s return, the fact that Deacon resurfaced as Quinn’s shooter and that after a year, it was Sheila who spilled the secret about Ridge and Quinn’s “affair of the heart”. The acting in the aftermath of that fallout from John McCook (Eric), Thorsten Kaye (Kaye) and Rena Sofer (Quinn) was superb. Wyatt and Katie’s fun fling has been an engaging and pleasant surprise, and congrats to Don Diamont (Bill), who I personally think may have just had his best year yet, ever, in daytime.

Lee Meyer – DAYS
There have been so many DAYS moments that I’ve loved this year. I was cheering at the screen when Abigail punched Ben right in the face at the double wedding. Will’s return and the reveal that he thought he was EJ DiMera left my jaw on the floor. Nicole’s good-bye was sad but felt like a fitting end to the character. And I was tearing up during Sami’s final scenes with Will, where he finally accepted her as his mother.

Mara Levinsky – GH
I’m gonna take this one month by month. January: Nathan and Maxie’s wedding. February: Liz and Franco’s first love scene, and “Jason” delivering Scout. March: Nora’s hilarious reaction to the litany of client Olivia Jerome’s crimes. April: Alexis and Julian spending the night together when he returned from the dead. May: Tracy’s three-hankie good-bye. June: Aunt Stella hitting Port Charles. July: Kelly Monaco’s (Sam) boffo performance as toxoplasmosis-stricken Sam, Sonny’s “reunion” with Stone, and Serena’s return on the occasion of Lee’s passing. August: The kickoff to the too-short Kristina/Parker/Valerie triangle. September: The introduction of “Patient 6”. October: “Patient 6” hits Port Charles and reunites with Sonny. November: Nathan’s adorable reaction to news of Maxie’s pregnancy. December: So many poignant beats to choose from once the Jason/Drew truth came out — but the one that got me the most was Drew and Liz telling a heartbroken Jake that Drew isn’t his daddy.

Devin Owens – Y&R
For me, it was Nikki’s piano concert on Y&R. For months, La Newman had been battling a painful flare-up of her MS, but she refused to cancel the show because it was for charity, plus she didn’t want to admit defeat to Victor. For the big performance, Y&R designed a gorgeous outdoor pavilion, and it was a great payoff when Nikki played flawlessly, thanks to the fact that her portrayer, Melody Thomas Scott, is an accomplished pianist.
