Death Becomes Them Page 2

Veronica Landers: In 1997, Veronica, the unbalanced, presumed-dead wife of Dr. Joshua Landers, came to town after attempting to commit suicide by jumping in front of a car. She lived, had facial reconstruction, took the
name “Sarah” and got a job as a maid in the home of Joshua and his new wife, Nikki. On a stormy night in 1998, Veronica revealed her true identity, but
when Joshua rejected her, she shot him to death and nearly killed Nikki in the process. Veronica went into hiding, but when Nikki recovered, she made
another attempt on her life. After a struggle with Victor, Veronica was impaled on a pitchfork and died.
Albert Miller: In 1984, when Nikki hired Paul to locate Victor’s family members, he located Newman’s mother, Cora, but Victor’s dad had supposedly died in 1962. Imagine Victor’s surprise when his brother, Matt, came to town in 2003 to break the news that their father, though terminally ill, was alive and living in Toronto. Victor and Nicholas journeyed there, but the
reunion was hardly joyous. The usually impenetrable Victor was crushed to learn his father had faked his death to escape his family ties. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but like father, like son? Read on….Victor Newman: Victor is a double-death faker, too. In 1983, Victor’s secretary, Eve, plotted to kill him upon learning that he had included her son, Cole, in his will. Eve and her partner-in-crime, Max, slowly poisoned Victor, but he caught on and faked his death in order to trap them. Victor
gaslighted the daffy duo; Max died in a freak accident and Eve was institutionalized. Ten years later, Victor was carjacked and when the burned
vehicle with a charred body carrying Victor’s wallet was found, Genoa City presumed that the great Victor Newman was deceased. Unaware of the fracas, Victor fell for blind farmer Hope, and stayed behind to be with her. But upon learning Jack had wrested control of Newman Enterprises, Victor invited family, friends and enemies to an intimate gathering where he stunningly
reappeared to all.
Isabella Braña Williams: Initially a pawn of Michael Baldwin’s to keep Paul and Christine apart, Isabella played damsel in distress for the clueless P.I. in 2001. She quickly seduced Paul, had his son, Ricky, a year later and
they married. But when Michael confessed his machinations to then-fiancé Chris, Isabella lost her marriage and went loopy. She faked her death and gaslighted Christine into believing that she had “killed” her, though a body hadn’t been found. Izzie emerged from hiding several months later and tried to drown Chris in her bathtub and make it look like suicide, but Paul and Michael came to the rescue and Isabella was arrested.
Carl Williams: In 1999, Christine was stunned to see a dead ringer for Paul’s long-presumed-dead pop, Carl, and after a little digging, discovered that Genoa City’s top cop, missing since 1990, had amnesia and was living in
Virginia under a new identity with a woman named Ruth. He returned to Genoa City, where his wife, Mary, had moved on and gotten engaged to Charlie. She broke the engagement, but when Carl was unable to recover any his memories of the past, he returned to Ruth.
Paul Williams: In 1989, wealthy, vindictive George Rawlins was murdered, and Paul, who had been having an affair with the victim’s beautiful, much-younger wife, Cassandra, was framed for the crime. During his trial, Paul faked his own death and followed Cass to Bermuda, where he witnessed
her rendezvous with her secret lover (and the true killer) Adrian. Paul then gaslighted Cassandra into revealing the truth. Adrian’s attempt to kill Cass failed and he went to prison.
