Déjà Who?! Stars Outside of Oakdale
About a year or so ago, before I became Weekly‘s AS THE WORLD TURNS editor, I would pass by our ALL MY CHILDREN editor’s desk at 2 o’clock and we’d have a good laugh about AMC’s Dixie and ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Todd (Cady McClain and Roger Howarth, ex-Rosanna and current Paul) mixing it up in Oakdale. “Dixanna” is off the canvas, but it’s still funny — to us, at least.
So, here are eight crazy connections (and a few degrees of separation) that some of your favorite ATWT stars share outside of Oakdale.
1. When recurring legal eagle Cass Winthrop (Stephen Schnetzer) goes on the defensive in Oakdale, why doesn’t he notice that Dusty Donovan looks exactly like his brother Morgan? Grayson McCouch played Morgan on ANOTHER WORLD from 1993-’96.
2. Take a look “inside the light”: Did ex-Craig Hunt Block ever wonder why Will Munson looked so familiar? On GUIDING LIGHT in 1999, Jesse Lee Soffer played Max, the adopted brother of Drew Jacobs, who was Ben Warren’s daughter. Warren was, of course, played by Block. (Does your head hurt yet?)
3. ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s ex-Todd (Roger Howarth) is now ATWT’s Paul Ryan, while Christina Chambers, who played ATWT’s Molly for a few months in 2004, is now playing Todd’s famous rape victim Marty Saybrooke.
4. But wait, it gets weirder. When Howarth played Todd, his lawyer was Hillary B. Smith’s Nora Gannon. Smith portrayed Margo Montgomery Hughes on ATWT from 1983-’89.
5. The 1998 film You’ve Got Mail starred ATWT vets Parker Posey and Meg Ryan — whose Oakdale tenures never overlapped. Posey played troublemaker Tess Shelby from 1991-’92 and Ryan played Betsy Andropoulos from 1982-’84.
6. Actress Margaret Colin originated the role of Margo Hughes in 1981, playing it until 1983. She met and married co-star Justin Deas (ex-Tom). On GL, Deas’ Buzz was once married to Kim Zimmer’s Reva Shayne. Zimmer’s son Jake Weary briefly played Luke Snyder on ATWT.
7. Take my wife please! Cass Winthrop (see No. 1) married Lisa Peluso‘s Lila Roberts on AW in 1999. But from 1988-’95, Peluso played LOVING’s Ava Rescott, who married Randolph Mantooth‘s Alex Masters. Mantooth was a temporary Hal on ATWT from 2004-’05.
8. No mention of crazy connections would be complete without Kevin Bacon. Though he was never on ATWT, Bacon played Todd Adamson on SEARCH FOR TOMORROW in 1979. SEARCH was also the daytime debut for ATWT’s current Craig, Jeffrey Meek, who played Quinn McCleary from 1984-’86.
