DAYS’s Smith On First Emmy Nomination
DAYS’s Freddie Smith (Sonny) is thrilled by his first Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Actor. “I was literally surprised,” he reveals. “It’s amazing. I woke up to my phone vibrating and saw that I had all these text messages and tweets. I took it all in, woke up and then realized, ‘Oh, this is real!’ It’s an honor.” Smith is also excited that co-star Chandler Massey (Will) is nominated in the same category. “To have both Chandler and I nominated is really cool because we play a couple on the show,” he shares. “I’m so proud of Chandler and what we’re doing.” Smith is also happy for Peggy McCay (Caroline), who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress, and Arianne Zucker (Nicole), who got a nom for Outstanding Supporting Actress. “Arianne, Peggy and Chandler all deserve it,” he enthuses. “We work with such an amazing cast that it didn’t surprise me they were nominated. I expected it, but with myself, the feeling was, ‘I don’t know if that’s going to happen.’ ” Smith is also celebrating DAYS’s record 17 Daytime Emmy nominations. “It’s great for the show. DAYS deserves it. We have such a hardworking crew. “
