Frankie can’t believe Jack is going to disappear and die without telling Jennifer the truth. “Do you have any idea how upset she’s gonna be, how angry?” asks Frankie. Jennifer
overhears, but Jack covers and says that he’s working on a big,
confidential project. Jennifer and Frankie go to the kitchen to get coffee and discuss the surprise party Jennifer’s planning for Jack. After a while, Jennifer decides to bring Jack a cup of java. He needs a break after working on his computer for so long.
Jack refuses to take a sip. He knows Jennifer is trying to ply him with caffeine, so his motor mouth gets going and he tells her all about his project. Jack leaves to pick up Jack Jr. from Vern and Jo, who are babysitting. Jennifer realizes Jack’s gone out
without his jacket and picks it up to bring it to him, when a bottle of pills falls out of the pocket. Jennifer looks the drug up on the Internet and to her horror discovers it’s used to treat
fatal illnesses. “Oh my God! My husband’s dying?” she bemoans.
John takes Marlena home, after she’s blurted out that she wants a divorce in the middle of a coffeehouse. He’s confused, to say the least, and can’t believe Marlena’s made this decision on today of all days. It’s her birthday. He had special plans for them. Alex emerges and says that John should have cleared those plans with him. “Stay the hell out of it,” barks John, perplexed by Marlena’s sudden change of heart. Marlena says she doesn’t
love John. Plus, he keeps trying to undermine her shrink. A la Garbo, Marlena says, “I want to be alone.” Suddenly, John understands perfectly: Alex is behind this. John pulls Alex aside and demands that he leave. John wants to talk to Marlena privately. Not wanting to face John’s wrath, Alex leaves Mr. and Mrs. Black alone. John presents Marlena with her birthday gift: a photo album of their life together. John and Marlena connect as
they peruse pictures of special moments from their past. A teary-
eyed Marlena can see they’ve had some amazing times, and she and
John almost kiss. But the phone rings and breaks the moment. Marlena answers and it’s Alex playing that funky music. When Marlena hangs up, she’s back in zombie mode. She tells John their walk down memory lane was pointless. She still wants a divorce.
Austin announces that there’s no way Sami can be prosecuted for treason to a stunned Kate and tells Roman and Mickey he needs to talk to them at once. Sami whines that she could be going to death row again, but Austin says he’s NOT going to let that
happen. Austin explains that the police have the facts all wrong.
Then, he offers his cockamamy explanation. Lucas, Rex, Shawn and
Brady weren’t affiliated with the US military. In fact, they were acting on their own as armed mercenaries in a hostile country. Plus, Tony, as despised as he is, was never the declared enemy. Hence, Sami wasn’t working with an enemy of the US. Roman and Mickey, who understand all that, agree and call the D.A. and U.S. attorney. Alone with Kate and Sami, Austin is treated to some
more of their bickering. Kate says she wants Sami “to fry.” Sami says she’s already paid for masquerading as Stan. Roman and Mickey return and announce they have good news, Austin’s argument was successful. All the charges against Sami have been dropped. Sami thanks Austin. He tells her Kate is really the one who deserves thanks. Kate reminded him of all the things Sami had done. That’s when Austin realized there wasn’t a case against her. Sami actually thanks Kate.
