Marlena woke up from a horrifying dream — John lying dead with a knife in his chest — as she sat beside her beloved on a plane headed back to Salem. Marlena reminded John of his promise to drop out of the
EJ/Patrick investigation, but he explained that he’d have to renege on it. Their plane was sabotaged, and he couldn’t let that go. The onyx ring found at EJ’s means he is part of the DiMera organization, and
John was determined to bring him/them down.

Bo arrived home, kissed Hope on the cheek, and thanked her for giving their marriage another chance. Hope told Bo to put his things in the
master bedroom, much to his delight. Stephanie, who’d heard about Kayla’s recovery, came downstairs and said she couldn’t wait to be a
family with her parents. Bo cautioned Stephanie not to be too anxious about Steve and Kayla living together, pointing out they’d need time to find their way back to each other. Stephanie went outside to start up the car, and Hope asked Bo why he was being so negative. He explained that Steve still had feelings for Billie. Before leaving, Hope asked Bo to have dinner with her. He agreed and they kissed goodbye. Marlena dropped by and told Bo that John was at the police station meeting with Roman and Abe; then, asked him a favor. Could he convince John to get off the case? She feared losing him. Bo insisted they needed John’s
help, but agreed to talk to Roman and Abe about it. He was going to ask for his badge back. If the cops didn’t feel so short-handed, they might
not need John.

Kayla kissed a sleeping Steve and explained that hearing him encourage her to live is what brought her back. Now, she didn’t ever want to be
apart from him again. Kayla got a little faint, so Steve helped her back to bed. Kayla called Steve on changing the subject about them reconciling. She realized that just because he remembered their past didn’t mean he felt the same way now. Stephanie and Hope arrived, and Steve walked Kayla to the window. Stephanie gushed about how Steve saved Kayla from dying. Kayla admitted he was her hero. Stephanie asked
when Kayla was being released and coming home. She couldn’t wait for the three of them to be a family. Kayla told Stephanie that they
couldn’t rush Steve. When Stephanie went to call Caroline, the doctor told Hope that Steve was free to leave any time, but Kayla needed to
remain hospitalized to receive oxygen therapy and rehab. Hope offered to hire a private nurse to take care of Kayla so that she could be released sooner, and the doctor agreed. While Kayla napped, Steve
admitted to Hope that he didn’t remember everything about his past. Steve had a few memories, but NOT the feelings that went with them,
although he sensed Kayla was special to him. Still, he woke thinking about Billie. Hope told Steve that Billie refused to visit him. Steve asked Hope to find Billie and to explain what was really happening and
what he just said.

Abe ordered Tek to go through EJ’s phone records and bank statements but Tek refused, noting that he was a street cop, NOT a paper shuffler.
Tek accused Abe of trying to punish him because of his affair with Lexie. Roman took Tek off and explained that while this may be grunt work and Abe’s way of showing who’s boss, this was an important case involving a cop killer. So Tek should just do it. Later, John arrived and told Abe and Roman that this case was now personal. John wanted to be deputized, but Abe refused, noting that John was too close to the case. John told Abe that he wasn’t going to kick back on his terrace
waiting for him and Marlena to get bumped off. The cops had two choices: deal with him or he’d work on the outside. Tek interrupted and brought in EJ’s bank statement and information about a safe deposit box. John hoped that something in that box would explain why EJ was trying to destroy their lives.
