At the garage, Mimi and Max kissed, but he pulled back, saying the time wasn’t right for them to get more passionate. Nevertheless, they went to the back room and started making out more. Abby accidentally walked in on them, then stormed off in a huff. Max went to talk to her; Mimi left. Max apologized to Abby for taking her for granted. “We’re a good team,” he said. “A good team?” Abby replied uneasily. She asked where her Christmas bonus was. He went to the file cabinet to get her a gift. It was a book and she loved it. He told her to read the card, which called her “a friend, a confidante and the closest thing to a little sister” he had. Disappointed, she told him that she was a woman. She then left.

Bonnie summoned Billie to the Brady Pub. There, Bonnie revealed that her son Connor was coming home and that she needed Billie and Chelsea to move out. “You’re kicking us out?” replied Billie. Bonnie turned on the waterworks, saying she had so many family problems so an exasperated Billie said that she and Chelsea would work something out. Mimi came to the Pub to see Bonnie. They talked about Connor, who had been in a boot camp for troubled teens. Bonnie revealed that she asked him to come home, but that he never showed at the bus depot. “You sent him cash and you’re wondering why he hasn’t shown up?” grinned Mimi. “He takes after you…. He took the money and ran.” Bonnie said she didn’t think so. Mimi remarked that Connor should really be home with them and going to school or living with their Dad. Bonnie said she didn’t want to talk about their father. Bonnie got a call on her cell from the cops: Connor was arrested.

At the bar, Billie asked Caroline if she had any rooms available above the Pub. No, she replied, though Bo’s room was probably going to be available now that he was back with Hope. Billie said that she promised Chelsea that they’d get their own place, so she would look around. Caroline offered to let Chelsea live in her spare bedroom while Billie looked for a place. Billie, moved by the gesture, thanked her.

Belle was rattled when Shawn told her the story about the photographer. “Do you think this person is working for Child Protective Services?” Belle asked. Yes, replied Shawn, who added that he believed Victor was behind it all. Shawn insisted that Victor wouldn’t be able to take Claire from him, but she said that he’s Victor and he gets what he wants. They went to leave the hospital chapel and Beverly from CPS was waiting outside, saying that she was going to take Claire from them. Shawn slammed the door on her. “I’ve got a court order to take Claire Kiriakis,” she yelled through the door.

Steve asked Kayla how it was possible for John to react to his voice. “Miracles happen,” she replied. Steve wondered why John only showed signs of life when he was around. They headed to the chapel to light a candle for John and came upon Beverly trying to get into the chapel to take Claire. Steve and Kayla tried to sort out the mess. Steve knocked on the door and Shawn opened it for his aunt and uncle to come in. Kayla embraced a weeping Belle. Shawn suggested going on the run. Steve and Kayla advised them not to. Shawn asked Steve what he should do. Steve said when he was younger, he would have done what Shawn is thinking of doing: “Turn a lousy situation into a train wreck.” He advised them to turn Claire over temporarily and get a good lawyer. Belle was worried that Victor would win in court. Beverly and the cop banged on the door, saying their time to talk was up. Belle and Shawn reluctantly agreed to hand over their daughter. Shawn (correctly) accused Beverly of being on the take and that Victor was paying her to destroy their family. She denied it. Beverly took Claire; Belle broke down in Shawn’s arms.

Marlena fell asleep by John’s bedside and had a vision of him crying out for her. She woke up and assured him that she was by his side. Roman came to the room. Marlena began to cry and told him about the dream she had. He comforted her. “He’s in there. I know he is,” she wept. Roman suggested she go home and get some rest. She asked why EJ hadn’t been arrested yet. Roman looked at her and didn’t respond, then admitted that EJ got away. She was beyond angry and excoriated Roman for the police department’s failings. Dr. Tucker gave Marlena the latest update, which is that John’s brain function hadn’t changed. She wouldn’t believe it and returned to John’s bedside. Roman told her she needed to get some sleep to be strong for John. Marlena got into bed with John, then told him she had to go home. She implored him to try and tell her what he wanted to tell her the night he was shot. When she walked out, he whispered her name.
