Frankie and Jennifer converged in the kitchen in the wee
hours of the morning. He was folding laundry and she was baking
cookies, because she couldn’t sleep. Jennifer told Frankie that
she was glad he stayed in Salem and didn’t want him to leave, she
just didn’t want to become dependent on him or any man. It would
make her feel unfaithful to Jack. Frankie agreed he’d stay; then,
Jennifer volunteered to help him and his broken leg into the
shower. When Frankie slipped, Jennifer grabbed him and the pair
ended up in each other’s arms. Frankie told Jennifer to dry off.
Alone, Jennifer wondered aloud what was wrong with her. Her
husband was barely dead and she wanted Frankie to kiss her.
Little did Jennifer know that Frankie overheard every word.

Marlena bumped into Belle outside the ICU, where she was
checking on Alex. Belle was thrilled to see her mother. Marlena
noted that even though she had amnesia and didn’t remember Belle,
she knew how much she loved her and hated seeing her in such pain
over Claire’s illness. Marlena vowed to help Belle through this.

Lois hovered over an unconscious Alex’s bedside, while his
monitors went crazy and he remembered his past with Marlena and
Lois. Namely, Marlena being beaten by Lois and Alex finding her
battered and tears. When nurses checked on Alex, Lois hid, but
resurfaced after they left and said she’d take care of Alex once
and for all. Alex recalled Lois threatening him and Marlena with
a syringe, years ago, before two men carted her off, screaming.
Back to the present, Lois poised another syringe toward Alex, but
when she heard Marlena talking to Belle outside, Lois had a
change of heart and announced she would kill Marlena, first.

At Max’s garage, Chelsea continued to wonder what she hit
with Bo’s truck. When Max received a call from Caroline telling
him about Zack’s accident, he and Chelsea raced to the hospital.
The cops investigating Zack’s hit-and-run showed up at the garage
and spotted Bo’s SUV inside. The door was unlocked, so they
entered to check things out. The cops ran the SUV’s plates to see
who owned it, and discovered it was Bo. Then, they noticed that
the truck’s broken light, black paint, and tire marks were all
consistent with the accident scene. “This is definitely the
vehicle that hit Zack Brady,” concluded one of the cops.

Shawn, overwrought by the Claire and Zack crisis, blamed God
for trying to destroy his family. Mimi suggested going to the
chapel to pray, but Shawn rebuffed the idea. Hope agonized over
Zack’s condition, as Bo assured her they’d find the driver who
hit their son. Bo and Hope flashed back to happy Christmas
moments with Zack; then, Bo went off to call the police station
to see if there was any information on who ran down Zack. A
sobbing Hope was comforted by Doug and Julie’s visit. Doug
assured Hope that Zack would be fine. He was feisty like his
parents. Julie tried to reach out to Shawn. Mimi told her that
Shawn was hurting and how hard it was to watch the man she loved
and was going to marry in such pain. “You and Shawn are getting
married?” asked a stunned Julie. Mimi noted that she and Shawn
got engaged, earlier, but decided to keep it a secret. Soon,
Alice arrived and told Hope that she must have hope that Zack
will recover. Chelsea and Max showed up, and Chelsea went on
about how the best Christmas present she received was Zack
telling her that he loved her. “I would do anything to save
Zack,” sniffled Chelsea. Hope blamed herself for Zack’s accident,
saying she shouldn’t have arranged his sleep over and should have
kept her son by her side. Doug insisted that no one was to blame
and all they could do now was pray and put their trust in God.
Shawn shocked all by announcing that God didn’t care about their
family. All he ever did was test them. Hope noted that perhaps
God was testing them, but all they could do was pray for Zack.

In the O.R., Lexie fought back emotions tending to Zack,
whom she was once raising as her son, Isaac. As Zack’s condition
deteriorated, Lexie went into denial. “Failure is not an option
with this patient. He is going to live,” she told the stunned
staff assisting her. Ultimately, Lexie found herself helpless,
when a doctor deemed Zack brain dead. Lexie wept, uncontrollably.
Before preparing to tell Bo and Hope the dreadful news, Lexie
phoned Abe and told him to get to the hospital at once. She
needed him. Then, Lexie walked out to the waiting area. Reading
the horrified look on Lexie’s face, Hope sobbed, “Nooooo!!!!”
