In Los Angeles, Carrie asked Lucas for a ride back to Salem. He was more than happy to bring her home and offered her a place to stay while she was in town. She explained that she didn’t want him to get the wrong idea: She wants to go back to Salem to be with Austin. Lucas told her he thought she was making a mistake because Sami was in the picture. Carrie said she knew it was a longshot, but she needed to know if Austin still had feelings for her. Sami told Austin to stop thinking of Carrie when he revealed his mind was on his ex. Sami gave Austin a gift to remind him of their good times in L.A.

John and Kate headed to the penthouse, only to discover that Marlena and Alex were gone. They called Roman over. John explained that he learned some awful things about Alex and had to find them right away. John and Roman used their ISA spy gadgets to track Alex’s car and deduced that he and Marlena were on their way to the cabin.

Abby was alarmed to find that all of Frankie’s things were gone. Jennifer explained that she asked him to leave so that she, Abby and Jack Jr. could be alone as a family together. Abby was upset that Jen threw him out, especially on Christmas. Hope and Bo showed up with Zack — dressed as a mini Santa —in tow. Hope said they couldn’t stay long because they were going to the family Christmas party. We’re not going this year, revealed Jen. Hope convinced her to attend, then ran an errand for Jen. All of the Hortons gathered at Alice’s home. Julie showed them the new ornament Alice bought — for Chelsea. Bo was touched. Mickey comforted Jennifer. Maggie asked her and Abby to hang the ornaments on the tree of everyone who couldn’t be there. They did.

At the hospital, Lexie revealed that Claire could die without a liver transplant and that the situation was as dire as it could be. Shawn offered to have his friend put together a Web site, asking for help for Claire. Philip was grateful, but Shawn explained he’d do anything for his goddaughter. Belle prayed for God to grant a miracle. “Let her live and I’ll never ask for anything again,” she cried. Hope found her there and Belle explained what was going on with her daughter. Belle begged for a sign that things would be okay. The candles were flickering and she thought that was it. “It might be a draft,” Hope said sadly, “but that doesn’t mean God won’t still send a sign.” Hope left to go to the Horton tree-trimming party.

Hope came into Alice’s and noticed Shawn wasn’t there. Bo explained he was at the hospital. Bo and Hope hung their ornaments with Zack. Bo hung Chelsea’s. The Bradys kissed. Jennifer looked on morosely. Abby hugged her mom. Maggie and Mickey went next. Then Doug and Julie. Alice looked into the camera and said, “To those we love near and far, may the blessings of this day be with you now and all the days of your lives.”

Kate came by the hospital to support Philip. Austin and Sami went straight to the hospital from the airport to be there for their sibs. Sami didn’t want to see Kate, so she went to the kids’ party and got them all excited to see Santa. She said she knew what she wanted Santa to bring her —Austin. Lexie asked Shawn to read the Christmas Story to the children in the pediatric ward. He said he’d be honored to do it. Hope, Bo and Zack arrived in time to hear it. A festively dressed Bonnie joined in. Belle got hope that Claire would live.

Lucas and Carrie also headed straight to the hospital. Carrie admitted it was strange to be back in the place where she and Mike fell in love. Lucas talked with Kate, who encouraged her son to go after the woman he was interested in, despite her feelings for another man, unaware that Lucas was referring to Carrie and Austin. Sami ran into Lucas. He rubbed it in that he brought his lady friend from L.A. home with him, but didn’t say who it was. Carrie spied Sami, but couldn’t face her. Lucas saw who he thought was Carrie, went over and gave her a Christmas kiss. Turned out, it was Sami, who was happily stunned. Carrie and Austin wound up alone on the balcony together. “Merry Christmas, Austin,” she smiled.
