After Carrie accepted Lucas’ proposal, he wondered why she chose him over Austin. Carrie knew why, as she remembered back to Lexie warning her that any children she conceived with Austin could have severe birth defects. But she told Lucas that he was
the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. Lucas got down on one knee and gushed about how he’d loved Carrie from the first day he saw her and promised he’d never hurt or betray her. While he’d done things in his past that he wasn’t proud of, like
conspiring with Sami and working for the DiMeras, he was going to be the best man he could be from now on. Then, Lucas took Carrie’s hand and put the engagement ring on her finger. Too bad Carrie saw Austin’s face, when she looked down at Lucas. When Lucas suggested taking Carrie out for a lobster to celebrate, she
thought about Austin, again. Carrie nixed the lobster idea.

Kate fainted after Austin announced that he wanted to give a relationship with Sami another go. Austin rushed to his mother’s side and she came to, but wasn’t happy about Austin’s
decision. Austin received a phone call from Nicole and went to another room to talk to her. Alone with Kate, Sami gloated about being Kate’s “next daughter-in-law.” Kate told Sami that she knew she did something to make Carrie choose Lucas, and they argued.
Kate opened the door to leave and found Carrie and Lucas standing
outside. Lucas announced that he and Carrie were engaged, and Sami was the first to congratulate them. Lucas said he bought it, because Sami knew that meant Austin was free for her. Austin and Carrie stared longingly at each other, when Sami fetched
champagne so they could all celebrate. Of course, Lucas, a recovering alcoholic, got soda. Sami made a toast to Lucas and Carrie; then, Austin wished the couple “all the happiness in the world,” although it was obvious his heart wasn’t in it.

Bo was sorry he yelled at Chelsea and drove her out of the house because he was frustrated by his situation with Hope. He tried to call The Bad Seed, but she didn’t answer. The reason?
She was lying at the bottom of a sewer, after falling down a manhole. Billie figured Chelsea wasn’t answering on purpose and advised Bo to stop worrying about her. That’s exactly what Chelsea wanted. Billie told Bo that he should be concentrating on
repairing his marriage. Billie blamed herself for Chelsea being so manipulative. She was just like Billie when she was young. “What if it’s in her DNA?” wondered Billie. Bo and Billie discussed their past, and Billie wondered what Chelsea thought of
Bo and Billie’s relationship. After all, they were never in love. Bo insisted they had been. Billie said that Chelsea knew Billie had manipulated Bo in the past and was now doing the same thing, trying to keep Bo and Hope apart. Bo remembered how Billie walked away from him, so he could reconcile with Hope, years ago. Billie
admitted that she regretted not fighting for Bo and encouraged him to fight for Hope. Bo wasn’t sure that was a good idea. He feared it might only make things worse. Bo thanked Billie for her support and said that he needed her as a friend, and Chelsea
needed both of them.

Meanwhile, down in the sewer, Chelsea remained unconscious
and rats crawled beside her. Two workers arrived at the site of the open manhole and put the lid on it. One of worker suggested checking the hole first. The other didn’t see the point, since there were only rats down there. (So true!!!)

On Morgan Island, Patrick followed Hope down to the beach because he was worried about her. Hope admitted that she was angry after reading the article about Shawn’s wedding. That’s why she E-mailed Bo about a divorce, but she hadn’t meant it. It hurt her deeply that Bo agreed to ending their marriage so quickly. Bo was supposed to say no, that he loved Hope and wanted to fight for their marriage. Insisting her and Bo’s love story was over, a teary-eyed Hope took off her wedding ring and tossed it into the
ocean. Hope moaned that she was all alone, but Patrick assured her that she wasn’t. Then, he tenderly leaned in and kissed her.
