Dylan Fergus: Do you ever worry that when you ask pronunciation questions, someone like myself might give you the wrong pronunciation?
Silvana Arias: Well, Galen [Gering, Luis] used to do that all the time when I first started working on the show. I had to say, “the bogey man” and he said to say, the “booger man.” I know they are going to cut the scene and tell me how to say it, so I’m not afraid. I ask Eva [Tamargo, Pilar] or Heidi [Mueller, Kay] or the director or Cherie [Wall, stage manager]. Then if they don’t answer, I ask you [laughs].Fergus: Do you think in Spanish and reply in English?
Arias: Sometimes. But when I’m talking, I’m not thinking about what I’m saying. That’s why I ask you, “What are you going to say exactly?” When I’m looking at you [in a scene], I’m reading the script in my mind. If I see that you said something different, I don’t know how to respond. Fergus: Do you have a photographic memory?
Arias: Yeah, I turn pages in my mind. Fergus: I don’t memorize lines like that at all.
Arias: In Spanish, I do something different. I read it, I understand it, I use my own words and my feelings. Fergus: It sounds like you’re feeling it [in our scenes]. Today we were doing a scene, and with no help at all, one tear came streaming down her face.
Arias: But it’s hard for me to cry in English because I don’t feel it. It’s different. Digest: Silvana, do you tell Dylan how to say stuff in Spanish for his scenes?
Arias: He knows those things.
Fergus: The best is when we started working together and Silvana started talking smack about me in Spanish. She didn’t know I spoke Spanish and I’m like, “Hey, I’m right here!” And she got all flustered. It was with Adrian [Bellani, Miguel]. Don’t you remember that?
Arias: Maybe we were doing it on purpose. We never talk about you.
Fergus: Smack-talking troublemaker.
Arias (to Digest): Let me say something: We never talk about him, so that’s impossible.
Eva Tamargo (Pilar, who is passing by): Don’t think so highly of yourself, Dylan [laughs].
Arias: I never say anything bad about anyone.
Fergus: Anyone?
Arias: Well … [laughs].Fergus: You never curse in English.
Arias: I have no emotions there.Fergus: What is your favorite curse word?
Arias: I don’t have any. I never curse in English.Digest: You’re trying to be James Lipton from INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO.
Fergus: I love those questions! If Heaven exists, what would you want God to say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
Arias: “You’re welcome!”
