Broadway Baby!
ALL MY CHILDREN’s Sarah Glendening (Marissa; ex-Lucy, AS THE WORLD TURNS) is diving into her second soap gig of 2010 this month, but being on TV isn’t really her first love.
Glendening reveals that she only started acting “because I wanted to sing. I’ve been a singer; I was raised in Florida, so the only way I could get up and sing was to do local theater,” she explains. “This was years before I thought of myself as an actor.”
Now, the acting’s taken over, but the singer is definitely still lurking in the background. “I don’t sing nearly as much as I used to,” Glendening moans. “I have a theater degree, and a really strong theater background.” But the urge to warble remains…especially in musical comedy. “Oh, God, I mean, as far as leading ladies in musicals go,” Glendening says a favorite role would be Dot/Marie in Sunday in the Park With George because “It’s such a beautiful play.”
But her favorite musical is Into the Woods, for a very personal reason: “I was a teenager, my parents were divorcing and my life was a mess,” she recalls. “And then, I got to learn this music. It reached right out to me, and literally let me realize I wasn’t alone. I would love to do that show again; play the baker’s wife or the witch. Actually, I’d do any role; play the cow,” laughs Glendening, “I don’t care!”
