Big Brother 5’s Drew Speaks! Page 2

Comments

WEEKLY: Now, some questions about you and Diane. Did you expect to romantically connect with somebody like you did?
Daniel: I really did not expect to romantically connect with anyone. It was actually one of my rules for myself, that I wasn’t gonna do that. I watched season 3 a lot, and I saw how Lisa and Eric got broken up and I said, “Drew, that’s one thing you can’t do.” I was so nervous the whole time and probably showed how paranoid I was. I think it actually helped us not hanging out all the time, and making people think we weren’t together as much as we were.

WEEKLY: What about faking the breakup with her after you heard that Marvin kissed her?
Daniel: I felt it was time for Marvin to go; it wasn’t the kiss. I was afraid, to be honest with you; Diane was getting up in the middle of the night and talking to him, in his room.

WEEKLY: Have you heard his kissing her was a strategy to break the two of you up?
Daniel: I actually just found that out today, and I said, “Now, I got ya.” That was a good strategy; it just didn’t work.

WEEKLY: It was interesting when you said to Diane you would really break up with her if something else happened.
Daniel: Oh, yeah, and I wanted to let her know that. (laughs) Being on the show in a relationship is so [hard]. You don’t know if you can believe her and she doesn’t know if she can believe you. You just want to make sure that you put your foot down at times, and see what it’s going to be like after the show.

WEEKLY: Speaking of after the show, what are you and Diane doing for the next two or three weeks? Are you taking it slow?
Daniel: Yeah, totally. We just want to hang out, just chill, be normal…she doesn’t live too far away from me. We want to be normal people in a normal environment, as opposed to that crazy game. We’ll see where it takes us, and I’m looking forward to seeing how she is on the outside.

WEEKLY: So you haven’t decided if you’re completely in love.
Daniel: Oh, no… (laughs) I have a lot of feelings for her and they’re genuine, and I know she does for me, but I haven’t decided on the love thing yet, and I’m waiting just to be in a normal environment for once.

WEEKLY: Is there something we didn’t see during the summer that you want the viewers to know?
Daniel: I guess the only thing…I was so scared the entire time that people were going to see Diane and me as a threat, and I was going to be gone — and I was going to hate myself. The rule I made for myself was not to get involved with a girl on the show. That was the one thing; I said, “Drew, you made a rule for yourself. Now you’re going to let the woman lead to your downfall.” Luckily it didn’t work out that way, but I was so completely paranoid the whole time.

WEEKLY: You did have that tough decision of ousting her and keeping Michael.
Daniel: That was a tough decision, the toughest decision I had of the entire time. But I definitely made the right decision. I’m looking at Cowboy right now and he’s nothing but smiles. We’re loving it.

WEEKLY: Was there a move that won you the game?
Daniel: I don’t think there was one move that sticks out in my mind that won me the game; it was just the combination of everything. You never knew what was going to happen, so you definitely had to play it week by week. I’m just so lucky to be here and I can’t believe I made it all the way.

WEEKLY: Do you think BIG BROTHER is a soap opera?
Daniel: Oh, BIG BROTHER is totally a soap opera. (laughs) I lived it. It was so dramatic all the time. My dad, Ted, even said it was definitely a soap opera; when my dad says it I know it’s true. My parents are so proud of me; it turned from a “summer job” to half a million dollars. So we’re all really surprised at how this turned out.

WEEKLY: How did you and the other HouseGuests handle those memory games, especially the veto plug-in one, where you had to remember the season’s veto winners in order? That seems extremely hard.
Daniel: I memorized the HoHs, but the one thing I didn’t memorize was the veto holders. [For those games,] it’s easy to remember when you’re living it.

WEEKLY: But it’s amazing to the viewers that you guys were able to do that in nine, 10 minutes; some of us would have taken a day.
Daniel: (laughs) I was so mad, so frustrated. It took me forever. Every time I heard that buzz I got so mad, and I started doubting every single week, and I said, “Where am I wrong?” Diane had said, “You’ve never won a Veto that we haven’t thrown for you.” Subconsciously I was thinking, “I’ve never won a Veto.” My own face was looking at me like I was an idiot.

WEEKLY: What about that faces game? How did you do that, with all the pressure on you?
Daniel: The DNA morphomatic game — that was intense, those scary faces looking at you. That was definitely one of the most fun games, trying to figure out what faces were put together. Those were some ugly people, I think we figured out who needs to stay away from each other. (laughs)

WEEKLY: Were you thankful to hear that Karen threw the chemical HoH competition?
Daniel: I didn’t hear about that, but I knew it!

WEEKLY: She didn’t want to be a target. That was a huge move on her part; I’m glad to be the one to tell you.
Daniel: Thanks, man. I didn’t know that; I don’t feel so bad now. (laughs) Cool. For her to do that, that’s awesome. It worked out for me.

WEEKLY: Is there anything that you’d like to tell the viewers?
Daniel: Thanks for all the support. I couldn’t have done it without the fans; knowing that everybody was behind me really helped me out a lot. Hopefully, they’ll see me more out here in Hollywood after this is all said and done.
