Big Brother 5’s Drew Speaks!
WEEKLY: What was the first thing that you said to your twin brother, Ben, and your parents when you came out of the house?
DREW DANIEL: I told them I loved them. It was just so amazing to see them. They said that they’re so proud of me. I was so overcome by everything in the moment; I just got lost in the moment. But my family was [who] I saw first, and it was awesome.
WEEKLY: How about Diane; what’s the first thing you said to her?
Daniel: I briefly got to talk to Diane. I just talked to her for about five minutes about an hour ago, and that’s all I’ve actually gotten to talk to her. We’re definitely going to talk a lot tonight. She knows I’m real busy, but she understands that.
WEEKLY: What were Cowboy’s first words to you when you won?
Daniel: Cowboy just said, “Congratulations,” and “I love you, man.” To be honest, I thought Cowboy had it won and for me to get it was really shocking. But Cowboy was such a good sport and had nothing but good things to say to me. Either way, it would have been the same thing, if he would have gotten first place; we’re both such good sports.
WEEKLY: What is the main reason you got those four votes?
Daniel: For me, people just looked at the way I played the game. They saw I was Head of Household four times; I made a lot of decisions. In comparison to Cowboy as a player, I had to do a lot more things, and true honesty…that’s what it came down to.
WEEKLY: And you didn’t have too many true enemies, if any.
Daniel: Yeah, not really. I was scared with Karen, and [when] I lost Diane, if Diane was going to have an affect on Marvin. To be honest, I was still scared. (laughs) I didn’t really piss anybody off too bad, but I was still very scared.
WEEKLY: I can imagine, you were extremely nervous.
Daniel: When Julie was pulling those keys out, I was just dying, and at first I thought there were going to be seven votes for Cowboy, the way their statements were: I’ll get second place; but I’m not going to get a vote. That last key…it felt like a year until she pulled that thing out and turned it around, and I saw my name.
WEEKLY: You must have been thrilled with Will’s vote.
Daniel: Oh, Will…I just love Will so much after the show (laughs). He’s awesome. So I thanked him so much.
WEEKLY: Have you heard that he had a semi-crush on you?
Daniel: Oh, yeah, I did hear that! My family told me that last night (laughs)…it’s all good. He’s an awesome guy and we had a lot of fun. I have a lot of respect for Will.
WEEKLY: The funny thing is, that was the first time that BIG BROTHER did it in that way, with Julie pulling out the keys. It was the most dramatic finale.
Daniel: Yes, and [it figures] it would be that way when I’m up there, stressing out; my heart’s pumping out of my chest. So dramatic…I thought I was going to have a heart attack there for a second. It made it that much better; when I walked out and saw the fans and everybody, it was like the best dream you could ever have coming true.
WEEKLY: More of a strategy-type question: When did you first feel you had a shot at winning the whole shebang?
Daniel: I felt good once Nakomis left the game…Nakomis was an awesome player, super-smart. I thought that if it was Cowboy, myself and Diane in the final three, that either way, with those two, I would be in the final two. If I won [the final HoH], I’d be in it. I still didn’t know if I was gonna win the whole thing or not. And I felt like I gave a good case to the jury when they were asking me questions, but to be honest, and I had no clue and was totally shocked when that last key got pulled out.
WEEKLY: That was a very tense jury meeting, of course.
Daniel: Oh, that jury meeting was insane. You try to prepare for questions, but a couple of questions were below the belt. Marvin’s were unreal; I couldn’t believe he asked that question [about being racist]. But Marvin was doing it for TV. You just never know with him. I felt like, “Man, are you joking?” I felt he might have wanted to make me look bad on TV and look like the good guy. Everybody knows that Marvin’s the classiest guy with women…
