Best Friends and Babies
ALL MY CHILDREN’s Babe and Bianca have a beautiful friendship and they both just gave birth to beautiful babies (even though Bianca has been led to believe her daughter is dead while Babe unknowingly raises her). We spoke to Alexa Havins and Eden Riegel (Babe and Bianca) about playing pals and those oh-so-realistic labor scenes.”I had done so much research,” reveals Riegel. “I read books [like] What to Expect When You’re Expecting. I watched the TLC series A BABY STORY. It felt like I watched hundreds of episodes! As soon as I got home I’d be watching women give birth on TV. One of our makeup artists, Pat Moore-Theis, is pregnant and so she invited me to go along with her to Lamaze class. I sat in a room full of pregnant Upper West Siders and practiced my breathing exercises.”Riegel also talked to her own mom. “I never knew the story of her labor and my birth,” she relates. “She got to tell me about that. She said, ‘I don’t really want to tell you, because I don’t want to scare you. I want grandchildren (laughs).'”Havins benefitted from doing some homework beforehand as well. “I got books and spoke to my mom,” she states. “Everyone that had a child I was picking their brain, and there were some really great things online that helped. And for some reason I have always watched MATERNITY WARD on TLC and just to see it firsthand was great. I wanted it to be no makeup, no lip gloss…I wanted to make it [look] real.””Real” is a word that many fans use when describing the friendship between these two characters. “A lot of my fan mail says that they love their friendship,” reveals Havins. “A beautiful friendship is developing. I think it is because they are quite different as far as upbringing and the people that they are. Bianca is a little more reserved and calm and comes from a wealthy family. Babe is from the wrong side of the tracks, is wild, always positive, loves life. I think that is what makes it so interesting.”Especially since Babe delivered Bianca’s baby alone in a cabin in the woods. “That’s the biggest bond you could have with someone,” declares Havins.
