Maddie tried to return the condoms, but the druggist wouldn’t accept them — just as Casey walked in! He apologized for running off and wanted to talk, but Maddie figured he wasn’t interested in dating a virgin and fled. Casey tracked her down. Maddie feared Casey still has a thing for Gwen, but Casey insisted it was just business. He said sex has caused him problems — his son died and he never even knew him. He wanted to “get close” to Maddie, but didn’t want to ruin things — condoms are not foolproof. She’s his girlfriend, but they can’t do anything that would get her pregnant.
At the library, Jade encouraged Will to buy a research paper online. She called up a Web page faster than conjuring a porn site, and showed him a paper on ecosystems. He was skeptical, but Jade told him to just change some words to personalize it. He relented and gave her his credit card. Gwen walked in precisely at the moment Will thanked Jade for saving his life. Gwen jokingly asked if she wrote his paper? Will introduced the women, and Gwen offered to help Jade with her housing problem. Will quickly suggested Gwen’s old place over Bert’s garage. Jade said she’d check it out. Gwen praised Will’s hard work and told him they’re going to need caps and gowns to graduate.
Paul left a message on Meg’s machine promising he is getting divorced and relinquishing any claim to Emily’s child, so they should go to Fiji. An anguished Meg listened while washing dishes. Paul found Jessica having breakfast, and she had his legal papers handy. Paul insisted relinquishing custody gives him a new start. Meg replayed Paul’s message while looking over the Fiji brochure. Jack walked in and observed it’s hard to love someone. Why “start over” with Paul? Things won’t change with him. Meg tried to defend Paul, and insisted she knew what she was doing. At hospital, Hal defended sending Emily for mental health evaluation as Dusty freaked and called it “special treatment” from her ex-husband. Emily then revealed she’s keeping her baby — much to Dusty and Jennifer’s horror. Dusty figured Paul planned to impregnate Emily as a plot to keep her from going to jail. Dusty insisted Emily wasn’t mentally ill, and he cannot forget what she did to him. Meanwhile, Meg told Jack the Snyders were lucky to grow up with in a loving family instead of with the Stenbecks or Tenneys. Paul and Carly need Meg and Jack, and the Snyders need to care for someone.
Speaking of Carly, Katie told her that Nick may have been involved in hiding evidence — and produced the other St. Christopher medal from the box. So whose medal was stolen from evidence room? They sussed out the medal in the box is Mike’s, which means the one found with the body can’t be. Katie remembered Nick sent his medal to a jeweler to fix the clasp, so they started calling shops. Katie pretended to be Nick’s wife and asked the jeweler to bring the medal over. When he did, Carly recognized a notch in its side, identifying it as Nick’s. That means Jack found Nick’s medal with the body. Nick wasn’t clearing Mike, he was covering for himself! The gals wondered about the lab report mentioning DNA “consistent with Mike,” and vowed to find out what that means.
Paul ran into Dusty and Jennifer, and was stunned to learn Emily was being evaluated. Paul insisted he’s signed away any rights, but Dusty was convinced Paul would be raising the kid with Em before the year is out. Jen blasted Dusty for getting angry over an innocent baby. Dusty revealed that when he thought he was dying he thought of Jen, so Jennifer offered him a deal: If Dusty concentrates on Jen and Johnny, she will cut all ties with Paul. Meanwhile, Emily looked over her new quarters and despaired. A nurse summoned her for the doctor just as Em started mooning over the sonogram. She hoped the baby will be a girl, but how can she give it away? Emily went to her appointment just before Paul walked in to drop off the divorce papers. He spied the file, and couldn’t resist looking at the sonogram — just as Emily returned.
In the park, Dusty asked J.D.: “How would you feel if I married your mom?”
