A very smoochy Katie and Mike returned home (to the Frasier cottage, ironically) but noise interrupted them. “Simon Frasier, if you are in this house, you are a dead man!” “Did you just say ‘Simon’?” Carly gasped, emerging. Lia and Casey arrived at Crash to get questioned by Margo about the fire and Lia figured Maddie had torched her sweater. At Java, Lisa told Maddie all about the arson. Jade watched the exchange. Dusty asked Barbara to watch over Johnny so he could take off for a bit. Susan and Emily came to court for her hearing and met up with a not-so hopeful Cass. (Hi, Cass!) “Prayer is good,” he advised, but Dusty’s testimony would be even better. In the hallway, Paul (clean shaven today!) made up with Meg after their spat the night before. Barbara rang Paul’s cell and told him that Dusty wouldn’t be showing so his victory was a lock. Meanwhile, Dusty arrived at the house where Emily had held him captive. Jade wondered why Maddie had lied about being at Crash to Lisa. Casey told Lia to keep her Pyro Maddie theory to herself. Mike and Katie filled Carly in on the Love Boat fiasco and asked for Oakdale news. She regretfully told Jen’s ex-hubby and his current wife about her death.

Henry arrived to support Emily but Susan booted him out. The hearing began and Tom asserted that Emily had been sane when she nabbed Dusty. Temperamental Dusty flashed back on his captivity. “She deserves what she gets!” he hissed. “I’ve read better fortune cookies,” said Cass of Tom’s statements, rising. Mike reeled from Carly’s news and asked Carly to stay with Katie as he took off. Lia gave her statement to Margo, leaving out any mention of Maddie and then Casey talked to Margo, “not as a cop, but as my mom.” Maddie downplayed her actions to Jade, who didn’t buy it. “You rode into town on a lie,” Maddie snorted at the hypocrite. Cass made Emily’s case, mentioning how she’d saved Johnny’s life. “Honey, what are you doing here?” Jennifer’s ghost asked Dusty. “We were robbed,” he told her. It wasn’t over, Jen told him before vanishing, he still had Johnny — who was alive because of Emily. At court, Emily spoke on her own behalf and Paul piped up to assure that he’d be taking custody of her baby. Emily told the judge that knowing the first time she held her child might be the last was punishment enough. Jade warned Maddie about “slipping into a scary, dark place.” Henry came in looking for a little sibling sympathy and realized that Maddie was in worse shape. Casey confided that Maddie was acting strange and Lia thought she started the fire. Margo promised not to drag Maddie down to the station and comforted her son, urging him to make the best of his summer before college.

Henry dropped his own angst and pulled a Dr. Phil on Maddie. “Stop worrying! Everything is fine!” she lied, kissing his cheek and running off. The judge gave Emily props for her new attitude, but he ruled that she was competent to enter a plea and be transferred into police custody. Smug Paul and Meg left as Cass advised Emily to plead guilty. Carly tried to buoy Katie’s spirits about Mike’s disappearing act and told her about her and Jack’s split and her intention to start her own business. Mike thanked Nancy for her short notice help with a surprise. Moments later, Simon sauntered into the Lakeview bar. Katie welcomed Mike home with more smooches and Carly made herself scarce. Mike said he’d realized “how precious every moment is,” and gave Katie a new wedding ring. “This one never comes off your finger.” Simon told the Lakeview bartender he was in town for business and pleasure. Margo found Henry at Java and let slip about the arson. Maddie’s been acting “kinda differently lately,” she observed, giving Henry a heads up. Maddie returned to Crash, watched Lia kiss Casey, and flashed back on seeing a knife during her attack. All of a sudden, there was a knife in her hands! Defeated Emily realized that Cass was right: pleading guilty was her best bet. In the hall, Paul gloated, telling Dusty that it was over. “Get out of my way!” Dusty growled, storming into court. “I’m the victim! And I want to be heard!” he announced.
