ATWT Goes to Hollywood
It’s great to see your favorite AS THE WORLD TURNS star every day in your living room, but here are 10 former Oakdale residents who ended up making a splash (or at least a ripple) on the big screen.
1. Julianne Moore (1985-’88) Oscar nominee Moore whiled away The Hours and then some playing twins Frannie and Sabrina Hughes. But just ask Darryl Crawford and Colin Crawley: neither sister found An Ideal Husband.
2. Jason Biggs (1994-’95) Sure, most people know Biggs for his predilection for American Pie, but daytimers knew him as Julie’s rebellious son Pete Wendell, who considered stepdad Caleb a Loser.
3. Jordana Brewster (1995-’98) This The Fast and the Furious member of The Faculty, who will be stepping into Angelina Jolie‘s shoes for a TV version of MR. & MRS. SMITH, first picked up speed as Hal’s daughter Nikki Graves Munson.
4. Emmy Rossum (1999) Did this Phantom of the Opera star wait till The Day After Tomorrow to ask her co-stars to “think of me fondly” when she left the role of Holden and Molly’s daughter Abigail?
5. Meg Ryan (1982-’84) Ryan was In the Cut, playing Betsy Stewart Andropoulos. Oakdale was anything but a City of Angels for Betsy, who married scheming Craig Montgomery.
6. Parker Posey (1991-’92) The Party Girl queen of indie films breezed into Oakdale like A Mighty Wind to play Hal’s niece, bratty vixen Tess Shelby.
7. Marisa Tomei (1983-’85) Long before she was sweeping up Oscars with My Cousin Vinnie, Tomei played Marcy Thompson, who was swept off her feet by Lord Stewart Cushing.
8. Kerr Smith (1996-’97) Okay, so he’s more well known for his turn on DAWSON’S CREEK as Jack McPhee, but we refuse to let ATWT’s ex-Ryder Hughes feel Forsaken just because his movie career didn’t take off.
9. Ming Na (1988-’91) Lien Hughes joined The Joy Luck Club when she found her dad, Tom, after years of separation, but her Final Fantasy ended up being a legal career in Washington D.C.
10. Kristanna Loken (1994) Given her short tenure as Dani Andropoulos, is it safe to say that this blonde bombshell um, Terminated a soap career to make BloodRayne?
