ABC Stars To Shine on Broadway
After last year’s successful musical celebration to support Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, ABC Daytime is taking the stage again Feb. 6 at the New Amsterdam Theatre on 214 W. 42nd St. in New York, the current home of Broadway’s THE LION KING.
Among the stars scheduled to perform are ALL MY CHILDREN’s Susan Lucci (Erica), Cady McClain (Dixie), Bobbie Eakes (Krystal), Kelli Giddish (Di), Jacob Young (JR), Cameron Mathison (Ryan), Aiden Turner
(Aidan), Walt Willey (Jack), Sydney Penny (Julia), and Jill Larson (Opal). And, in a change from last year’s event, stars from the other ABC soaps will be spotlighted as well. Look for ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Kathy Brier (Marcie), Robin Strasser (Dorian), Renee Elise Goldsberry (Evangeline), Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio), Kassie DePaiva (Blair), Kristen Alderson (Starr), Matt Metzger (Duke and a former AMERICAN IDOL contestant). Also scheduled: GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Scott Clifton (Dillon) and Rick Hearst (Ric).
“It’s just a great time,” raves AMC’s Young, who performed a number from the Broadway musical Rent last year and will showcase his singing again this year. “Everybody really gets into it. At first it’s like, ‘Wow, it’s going to be lot of work. How are we going to get it all together?’ But once it happens, it takes a life of its own.”
Young expects rehearsals to start “pretty soon, because it’s not that far away. I know there are going to be quite a few people performing this year. It’s always a surprise to see [people] I have never seen perform before. They get out there, do it and they do a good job.”
All of which means Young is really looking forward to Feb. 6. “It was an exciting event last year and a lot of fun,” he smiles. “I was like, ‘How many seats were sold?’ And they were like, ‘We sold out!'”
