Hoover pulls ads from ABC Daytime
By SOD Posted: Apr 18, 2011
Brian Kirkendall, Vice President of Marketing at Hoover announced on Facebook that Hoover is pulling all their daytime advertising during AMC and OLTL effective April 22. "We're making every attempt to pull our spots from these programs sooner," the letter read. Check out his entire posting here.

Best news I've heard all day. Praying more sponsors follow suit.
Dear Mr. Kirkendall,
Thank you for being sensitive to the wishes of the fans of our beloved soaps. Now if only some other big advertiseres would follow your lead! Hoover rocks!
One of the things we can do is to BOYCOTT The View! Tank the ratings for it. If anyone saw the comments Barbara Walters made about the cancellation supporting Frons & she cut the others off when they attempted to talk about their love of the genre, it was disgusting. Also, The View is the supposed "inspiration" for these new shows, so let's show them what we think of the "inspiration". Also, with the all important May sweeps coming up, what better way to "thank" ABC for their treatment of the shows & viewers of AMC & OLTL, than by boycotting the "inspiration"! Pass it on friends.
I've already done that . I find the show dull and boring. Have you noticed that these so-called 'talk' shows are hosted by people who don't, or no longer, have a regular show ? Mario Batali used to be on the Food Network channel. I haven't seen his show on there for a long time
Now, he's to be a host on "The Chew" where food and "weight loss" are some of the topics to be discussed. If you've seen Batali, you know what he looks like and I need not say anymore.
I guess will start watching other soaps on other stations, until those, too, take the path of the dinosaur, and become extinct.
Brian Frons....you can take The Chew and The Revolution, and HOPE that the 18-30 yr. old group you polled, will watch it because I think you have created two absolute duds as far as shows go.
Have you ever known Barbara Walters to let anyone else get a word in edgewise ?
Thanks for the additional info kitty08. And I'll be sure to pass it along.
Thats easy. I hate that show. You can't hear anything said because all they do is talk over each other.
Thank you Hoover for supporting our ABC soaps. Businesses, please join in.
All others, boycott ABC. I am and I know others that are.
Fire Frons.
We want Disney/ ABC to feel our pain, best way is hitting $$$$ thank you, Hoover for making sure they feel it.
Will Hoover go back to Disney/ABC if they reinstate our AMC/ OLTL?
If not, we have hurt our stars even more.
I hope Soap Opera Digest helps us save our our shows, because I love the magazine, but if it's just GH, I can't be bothered renewing my subscription
ABC/ Frons has been clear that they know the ratings for the new shows will be LESS than AMC & OLTL. They said the know and still will NOT bring the shows back. So, if ABC is hurt oh well. I have already made peace with the fact that GH will not last either. I think ABC is doing the first two to get us over it and then pull the plug on GH. Now that may not be for a year or two, but GH won't last. ABC/ Disney/ Frons does not like Soaps. They own it so they are getting rid of them (alsong w/ Soapnet). So if sponsers back out I say good for them. I would not sponser a network that makes up lies about what its viewer want. I was never asked and I WAS a full time ABC/ local ch 2 viewer but no more.
I saw a news report that ABC thinking of allowing shows to be sold, but OWN has already said not interested and so did another network. I emailed Direct TV yesterday w/ my request that they show OLTL on the 101 channel. Sorry but AMC has been dead to me for a long time and out of the two I am for OLTL in case only one would be bought. OLTL has better ratings and is just a much better show than AMC.
How incredibly stupid. Do you realize the advertising income their going to loose if Hoover pulls out? Maybe the shows won't even make it until the fall if they do this! Just because their wives etc. don't want to see the show end...boo hoo....get a life & do something to help them, not hurt!
If the despots are not hit in their wallets they will never get a clue. May I suggest you enrole in business school.
They have the right to pull out if they want and if you/ they are so worried then hey let them start commericals for their stupid new shows.
Thank you Hoover! btw. I own a Hoover and LOVE IT!
So happy that Hoover has this initiative. I've already sent my letter. Yes, we know soaps are a lot more expensive to produce than reality shows! However, cancelling our soaps and replacing whem with boring talk shows, etc. won't keep viewers for the network. If I don't have a soap to watch (DVR, Soapnet, or online), I'll turn to cable and watch other programs.

Kudos to Brian Kirkendall. Show Frons who he's messing with. I'm boycotting ALL ABC shows...I will miss Dancing with the Stars.
I hope Hoover continues not to sponser the new shows. It will only really hurt if they don't get sponsers for the new shows. What I don't get is Frons saying in a interview that they expect LOWER ratings for thenew shows.
I am so thankful to Brian Kirkendall and Hoover for listening to us. Hoover understands how important it is to listen to the consumers, I just wish ABC understood that as well. This is a huge blow and ABC just doesn't seem to care. Brian Frons said that all shows have to come to an end and maybe that is true about nighttime shows, but daytime shows that are watched 5 days a week, week after week, are in a category by themselves. These are the shows and characters that we have cried with, laughed with, raised our children with and have remained loyal to, for years. I'd like to know just exactly who was polled. Could it be that ABC targeted a group of people that they knew weren't soap watchers? Shame! Shame! I pray that other sponsors will follow suit and pull their advertising, as well. ABC trampled on our hearts and thankfully, Hoover understands that.
My sentiments exactly! I said basically the same thing in my letter to hoover.
I don't get how taking away advertising is going to help the soaps.
Okay....companies pay for time , on t.v. , to advertise their products. IF, and I say IF , those companies pay for the time and no one buys their products, they lose money, and lose interest in sponsoring a show that cost them .
With the replacement shows that ABC wants to put in the AMC and OLTL time slots, if no one watches the shows, then the advertisers lose money. And, the sponsors lose interest in supporting these new shows.
If the people who love these soaps end up with nothing but more self-improvement/food shows, then they have the right to not buy the products advertised on these replacement shows.
I, for one, have decided not to watch ANY show on ABC if they get rid of AMC and OLTL.
WOOOOOOHOOOO!! you go HOOVER!!!! let them know we mean business!! to bad they are to deaf and blind to understand this!
If more companies will follow Hoovers lead, ABC will have no choice but to listen. It also shows other networks what they should not do. Live on OLTL!!!!
BTW ABC I am in your key demo and I have no interest in healthy food shows or following a new fat woman's journey to thinness every day. I love soaps. I watch soaps. You will have lost this key demo, if soaps are not saved!
Thank you Brian Kirkendall, and Hoover, for supporting our soaps. Now, if the rest of the sponsors would pull their ads from ABC during this time slot, I think that would maybe get the point across to Brian Frons that there are fans who really are serious about keeping OLTL and AMC on the air.
And, I'm going to send my email to SaveOur Soaps@Hoover.com. Thank you again, for providing us with yet another way to let ABC know how the general public feels.
I am highly upset about the news that ABC is trying to cancle two of my favorite daytime SOAPS with shows about health and food thats what the food network is for we want our soaps to stay forever and The fans will boycott all shows on ABC if we have to this decision needs to be reversed and who ever decided thisn in the first placeneeds to be fired for doing something so stupid
yeah me too i am upest about all my children and one life to live being cancell i hope not does that mean hoover save these shows ?
My sentiments exactly, Kiddo ! I hope Brian Frons get the heat from his superiors at ABC and gets called on the carpet.
Wow! This is amazing, I'm so happy that a huge company it taking a stand along with all of the faithful fans.
Thanks again Hoover!!!
Thank you Hoover ! If other sponsors follow your lead it will make a statement that ABC might understand; LOSS OF REVENUE ! They really think we will watch another talk show or God Help Us, a reality show in place of our shows that we have been faithful to for 40 years. They really need a wake up call. All fans need to speak up and let our voices be heard. We want our SOAPS and help all of these wonderful actors keep their jobs. Again, THANK YOU HOOVER !
Hoover really has a Clue ! Reprocussions from the losses of these Shows will
damage Sales of all sponsers with ads, Many Viewers just won't View..
I am so excited that a company of your stature would stand up for us fans of AMC and OLTL. That means the world to us! We hope that others will follow your lead. I was a customer before but you will have my loyalty for life! Thank you!
i hope the shows dont cancell because these shows are like my family i have been watch these shows more than 10 years i love to watch now heard about cancell i couldnt believe because i dont watch talk shows and game shows too many !!!!!!!!!
