Fan Encounters

Stars and StrikesOn Oct. 7, over 40 stars from the New York-based soap operas ALL MY CHILDREN, AS THE WORLD TURNS, GUIDING LIGHT and ONE LIFE TO LIVE came together at Chelsea Piers for the annual Stars and Strikes event hosted by Jerry verDorn (Clint, OLTL) and Liz Keifer (Blake, GL). Normally held at the bowling alley at Port Authority (which is currently under renovation), the new venue gave fans the opportunity to interact with their favorite actors in a much more spread out, relaxed setting. Over 200 fans attended the event that raised close to $12,000 for the American Cancer Society Research Department.

Although the actors knew they were bowling for a great cause, the general consensus was that they knew they had limited bowling skills. EJ Bonilla (Rafe, GL) said, “I stink. I am horrible and I will probably bowl a 100.” Others, like John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex, OLTL), had the misfortune of the bowling gods shine down on them. Laviosier said about his first time up to bowl, “I don’t know what happened. I knocked down six pins and got ready for my second shot, but it moved to the next person.” He went on to improve, though, getting a number of strikes.

A special mention must be made of the GL cast. This event was the last in a series of events that started on Friday afternoon and culminated with bowling. Each and every actor that showed up had a smile on their face the entire time, and some stayed past the official end time to chat with the fans. The actors may not be the best bowlers, but in the eyes of the fans, event organizers, and this staffer, they are all winners.

Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC)

So it was Saturday At The Rail [on August 4 at Saratoga Race Course] and the last race was over…yet the results not official. Tracy [my sister] heard that Susan Lucci (along with others) were in the winners circle presenting the trophy. So she tells me and we took off for the winners circle…Tracy searches for Susan Lucci…no sight of her…she loses it…I say stay calm…follow me. We head into clubhouse and there she is…the most amazing Miss Lucci!!! My sister goes right up to her from behind and Susan Lucci could not have been more gracious…there is no other word for how she acted that I can think of. She was just there at the racetrack in the clubhouse and was so unbelievable.

Kristian Alfonso (Hope, DAYS)

I went to the Home Shopping studios yesterday and met Kristian. A friend of mine is the set designer there and she got me in. I watched the live show Kristian was doing and then met her afterwards. She was wonderful and kind. She is such a class act. She has been one of my favorites forever… She is so beautiful!
