AMC and OLTL Canceled
By SOD • Posted: Apr 14, 2011In a double blow to soap fans, ABC Daytime announced today, April 14, that ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE have been canceled. AMC will last air in September of this year, and OLTL is slated to shutter in January 2012. Stay tuned as this story develops.
"It's been a fantastic journey. I've loved playing Erica Kane and working with Agnes Nixon and all the incredible people involved with ALL MY CHILDREN," said daytime vet Susan Lucci. "I'm looking forward to all kinds of new and exciting opportunities."
OLTL's David Gregory (Ford) revealed on his Facebook page that AMC will tape its final episode in August, with OLTL to follow in November.

WOW! The last thing I want to do is to say good bye to soaps. Why in the world would they cancel a show when the fans would not miss a single episode of thier show. The devotion we have for our shows should buy endless episodes. I have not written or called abc, but I would like to write them(I just dont know where to write). First its AMC and OLTL, very soon it will be all soaps. Why do they get to choose to get rid of our shows? I am definately boycotting the channel(except for GH). I did read that (what's his name) said no matter what we do "he will not change his mind", and they will go on to cancel our beloved daily visit to our dearest friends. How I will miss Llanview and all that live there. When I found out they are affiliated with disney, I decided that if they will not change thier minds on cancelling OLTL that I am going cancel our disney trip, planned for June. We can find somewhere else to go. I will never watch thier new replacement shows, I'd rather watch nothing. I will not watch anything of thiers. I promise, even if I'm interested in something on thier chanel, I will aboslutely not tune in! Please if anybody can tell me where to write, I'd be happy to try to help. Maybe they will care if we boycott something big like disney and disney products.

I have been watching soaps for a long time Im a huge fan of nbc soaps i was upset when sunsetbeach,anotherworld,passions were taken off the air now only 1 remains on nbc days. I dont watch any other soaps from cbs,abc. But I beleive all the soaps should remain on the air there alot of people that likes drama, itrique,passion,comedy,and best of all cliffhangers,and no repeats new every day. I belive if soaps are being cancelled to replace them with reality shows and cooking shows no one will watch because there not interesting as a soap opera. If soaps are not being watched today what makes the network beleive there going to see reality shows and cooking shows. Maybe bring a new soap opera to the nework maybe people may watch it. Please save our soaps we need them to be on the air cause if all soaps from abc,cbs,nbc get cancelled television wont be the same again.
Upon further consideration, the sponsors of AMC & OLTL in my area are local and are sponsors to the ABC affiliate. I think, unless you live in the non-afiliate area, like NYC, you should
1: Threaten to boycott the sponsors of the new programs (the affilates will not pick up any shows that will get no sponsorship - this IS local). You have to CONTACT THE AFFILIATES NOW, give them the timeslot, ending dates of AMC &OLTL & the names of the new shows (if possible). Tell them you among other fans will NEVER BUY any product &/or service of the sponsors for the new shows.
2: Boycott the ABC sponsors of their PRIMETIME SHOWS. This means I will either have to watch or record the primetime shows to find the sponsors. THIS will hurt them the MOST. But... we need EVERYONE TO JOIN.
Find the sponsors in your area for PRIMETIME and email/call/write them to let them know you will never buy anything they produce as long as they sponsor primetime ABC.
I'm starting tonight.
Also, I've been trying to find out how to watch shows (for free) on the internet. I found a few sites but didn't like the selection &/or don't know how to download stuff with div???. Anyway, looking for alternatives and would appreciate any info' about such.
Sponsors -- will get back to you all with what I find out. Who, Where How?

if they continue to cancel soaps, not only will i boycott the products, I will not need a television at all.
I just read the Hoover Company has pulled its sponsorship from the daytime line up. Go to savethesoaps@Hoover.com and Thank them!!
As a fan of AMC & OLTL, I ask you to call ABC or write and let them know WE ARE NOT HAPPY about this decision. A mere 1000 or 2000 people 'complaining' will have no impact. We need at least 100,000 of fans to let them know. You can write at ABC.com and click on 'contact us' or call 1-818-460-7477.
I just wanted to share something that I have been thinking about. This is how dumb ABC is ,with all the Baby Boomers retring in the next few years why didn't they wait to cancel these shows until these once very loyal watchers actually are at home to return watching their soaps as they once did when their kids where small and they where "stay at home moms". I know their ratings would have gone up tremedoulsy!! I know my mom who is retiring this year was looking forward to "cetching up" on her ABC soaps once she retires in August. Lets face it the Baby Boomers make up a huge part of the TV audience!
I only watch C.B.S.soaps,however canceling 2 A.B.C.soaps is really sad for their fans,the people working on these soaps-in front and behind the scenes.Not to mention it'll put 2 magazines out of production.When A.T.W.T's was cancelled,it left viewers with "The Talk"I can't stand it,the network is over run with idiotic TALKING! During March Madness[on cbs] I attempted to get into O.L.T.L.,some of the A.T.W.T's people went over to it,etc.I'm sorry to say I couldn't watch it,and I wanted to and tried!I may have hit a bad week.It was some of the worst acting I've seen on a soap.I decided it was just for teens or a "training" soap.People in an emergency room [2 teens]were panting so heavily to show they were upset,it was laughable,like they'd run there from another city.Then,it just went from bad to worse,so,I can't say its cancellation is exactly a surprise,but,I am sad to see it happen.Especially,I'm afraid the writings on the wall for ALL soaps,and I love Y&R.So I have sympathy for all who are losing their soap.I'm not watching The Talk,but,no one has noticed,its still on,so boycotting?? Not sure it'll work,Too,Julie Chens hubby is C.E.O. of C.B.S,so,fat chance that'll work!!! People can try boycotting Dancing,but,doubt network will even care.But,good luck.
OK--I am a professional working woman who tapes every episode of ABC's triple threat-AMC, OLTL and GH.
Boycotting the network is one thing but if any of these sponsors go with the "replacement" shows...something about Chewing and Losers Losing Weight?
We need to tell the SPONSORS we won't purchase any of their items. Even if they currently sponsor AMC and OLTL now.
Out of all of television channels available, isn't there another option the creative folks at ABC could come up with? What about ABC Family for the Chew talk? Tell me it isn't Mario Lopez because that is too much to take. Hmm....Pine Valley/Llanview or Mario Lopez....good GOD ABC. What about a whole channel devoted to losing weight? Or building houses for people?

I've loved/watched soaps and have been obsessed with the art form since 1982 - cut many classes before I got my own VCR back in the day! It was a dream come true to intern at SOW in NYC after college in 2001, however, cancellation by ABC and CBS ATW/GL was overdue. Very surprised it was not GH this time, but if they are coming in under budget and ratings are good...so be it. Honestly, we do not need more talk shows, and one or two soaps per network is really more than enough these days. Soaps cost too much to produce, stories and production are not challenging or innovative and writers have bee writing down to audience. Where is the new blood? You can not tell me that of the millions of fans, their are not writers out there capable of infusing new ideas, honoring history, and writing story?
I have a heavy heart and feel like I am losing a family member. No matter what was going on in life, certain soaps were always there. You could turn on (insert favoriate) and feel safe and warm...like home.
DAYS, Y&R, B&B, GH have a great opportunity now. Honor your history. Cut some of the very large cast. Write for character's on your canvas. Infuse new blood (writers) with senior staff! No need to jet off to Europe or far a way places. GH stop with the mob. Y&R pair down the cast. B&B Sheila Carter? DAYS more Horton's and Brady's.
My mother's generation (baby boomers) and my generation should be the target demo. These are the people now home and retiring who made the soap industry boom - they will tune in. I will tune in. My young 16 & 18 year old niece's and their friends do not watch daytime soaps - they think they are dumb.
AMC/OLTL should go out with rich stories. Bring back as many old characters/actors as you can. Now is not the time to save money ABC, cancellation is saving millions...throw us a bone! Put the focus on history, ATWT & GL wasted their final months. I want to tune in or DVR everyday, cry and mourn. These friends (Soaps) will be greatly missed.
I am excited about the future of the reamaining 4 soaps. Networks, producers, and writers should read blogs, reach out to fans who have an interest in writing, promote a production staff member interested in writing scripts or an actor...and focus on what each soap does well. Each show has an indentity and voice. Script writing contest?

I see that many have posted the 800 # for ABC's Daytime comment line (1-818-460-7477) but I also found some numbers for Frons & Anne Sweeney (his boss).
As others have said, the recording tells you that if you are calling about AMC or OLTL, you must leave your message on the comment line # or your message will be deleted. I called anyway.........repeatedly (love 'redial'), then thought, why not let my soaps do the "talking" for me.....so after the recording says to leave your msg., I just put my phone up to my t.v. speaker and let it record OLTL for as long as the tape runs (about 2min.).
I am aware that some office assistant will still delete, no doubt, but why not let my calls at least be counted toward the disgruntled masses that are calling in directly to Frons's and Sweeney' s business lines ?

I have been watching OLTL since 1968 the very beginning shortly after I also started watching All My Children These two soaps have so much history. Their casts are like family members to me. We all watch the soaps to escape from the daily routines and problems. They have been a sanctuary for me all my life.
As far as Brian is concerned HE IS DEAD WRONG
My opinion is... He needs to be put into an Arctic Protective Suit, then Placed into Goofys' Costume, and then work DisneyLand in the Hot Sun for the rest of his life. It would be a perfect fit for he is already Goofy.....

I also have been watching OLTL since forever. Soap lovers deserve the truth - being told that ABC is listening to the people and therefore cancelling two soaps and putting on more talk and food shows during the day sounds completely moronic!!! What people are they listening to? Who wants more talk and food shows in place of our stories I ask you? The truth is the people in charge are cheap and greedy and putting on talk shows will save them money which they in turn can put into their own pockets. They can give two hoots about anyone other then themselves. What the people want is the LAST think on their agenda.
I am one of the originals that started watching AMC when I was in middle school and home sick with Mono for a month! I remember Tara and Phil, Nick Davis & Amy, Erica with Jeff, Phil, Nick, and many, many more..I was loyal to AMC, OLTL, GH all through high school and college. I set my VCR to record from 11-3 on weekdays at all times until I got a DVD with re-writable disks, and now a DVR with Comcast. I worked full-time, raised children, (that are now 24 and 30), and when they went to bed in the evenings, I got on my stairmaster and exercised to my ABC soaps. Even now, after dinner I still exercise to my soaps!
I also wake up to Good Morning America every day while getting ready for work and catch up with what's going on with the world, with Robin, George, Sam. It's been my routine since I had my first apartment in 1975! David Hartman was the host of GMA back then and then years with Charlie Gibson. I even watched Harry Reasoner, Walter Smith and Barbara Walters on World News Tonight before Peter Jennings was the Anchor, then Diane Sawyer... George and Elizabeth. As you can tell, I've been loyal to ABC the past 40 years.

After the final airing of AMC, I will only watch OLTL on the DVR. I'm changing Channels and BOYCOTTING ALL OF ABC. Thank You Comcast, though!! They make it so easy with a button called Channel Block. Who ever thought that would come in handy for anything other than protecting our children! "BLOCK ABC" Click, "OK"
If ABC goes forward with this stupid decision, I have one to make. What Channel and Soap will I switch to and watch while I'm on my stairmaster? I can gaurantee it won't be ABC and Mario Chews or the daytime biggest loser show!

ABC doesn't have hardly aany good night time shows-or daytime (other than soaps). I do not believe that I will be spending any of my scarce time off watching ABC. Do the execs really think that more stupid talk/game shows are the way to go?? Not in my house.
Canceling and replacing American Institutions is a wiser move than capitalizing on the Unique Marketing Vehicles that already exist? Intense creative promotion, new audience outreach (via college campuses) and Soap actor-endorsed products are just some ways this overpaid suit should have addressed this issue?

I started watching ABC soaps when NBC canceled Another World, and haven't watched a single show on NBC (or even MSNBC) since then. Effective immediately, I will discontinue watching everything on ABC until One Life to Live goes off the air and then I will never watch ABC again. Networks underestimate the loyalty of soap fans and the carryover of soaps to prime-time programming. Canceling these shows will hurt their ratings around the clock.
In Protest - Everyone stop watching Dancing with the stars. Once the Ratings of their most popular shows goes out the window they will hear our message. Hit them where it hurts them, in the POCKET.
I myself will not watch ANY ABC programs except OLTL and AMC. No more news, VIEW, CHEW, WHATEVER, NO MORE ABC ON MY TV. Maybe a very few exceptions on things that we just CANT miss, but for the most part.

ABC should cut back on some on ABC 27 news so they can add the new shows if thats what they feel they need to do. Ninety percent of the show is commercials and repeats of the same stories. I've watched One Life To Live since I was a teenager, Im now 58years old. I really look forward to my show everynight. I won"t be watching ABC at all if they cancel my show.
OLTL is the best show on the air right now! I cannot wait to see it every day. But today I got so sad watching, the reality hit me & I felt sick. I love Llanview & Llanfair & everyone on there & every other soap. I've been watching soaps all my life & never miss an episode. I record them on DVR, DVD & an old VCR at work. I also watch online if necessary, whatever it takes to keep up. I used to skip school on a big cliffhanger day back before we had VCRs (late 70s) Soaps are the only constant for me in this crazy world we live in. No matter how bad the day is, no matter what horrible thing is going on around you, the soaps are there, day in & day out. Such comfort. I will continue to watch GH but NOTHING else on ABC, ever. I am beside myself, furious over this. Huge mistake by ABC. It was bad enough to hear that we were losing SoapNet to a toddler network or whatever stupid thing they said but now this is too much. I love SoapNet. Who remembers the ABC promo "Love In The Afternoon" Then it was Summer Love and then Fall in Love in the Afternoon. What memories. I could rant all night but am worn out. I feel like I got the call that a loved one is terminal. We've got to do SOMETHING.

If by boycotting ABC then maybe the sponsors would stay away from them to? I don't know how the sponsors work but if there aren't any people watching, the sponsors aren't going to sponsor. Just a thougth. I have been writing on a bunch of different places hoping this will SOS (save our soaps).
Watching Live with Regis & Kelly this AM. I had tears in my eyes when Kelly showed pictures of hers and Marks beginning on AMC. I can't believe this is happening. Why did ABC spend money to move AMC to the west coast just to cancel this beloved show. If this goes down then AMC should have had their farewell in NYC where they were for 40 out of their 41 years. My husband and sons know how much I enjoy escaping to my 3 ABC soaps. They feel bad for me and all the loyal fans that (I guess) never mattered to ABC.

She appeared on a bunch of shows earlier this week, including Nate Burkas and a bunch of other daytime shows on many different networks than ABC.
She will survive. Did she know before the anouncement ? maybe. Or did she just know how to smell the air for bad signs after so many years experience ?? probably...
I really feel for all the writers and the behind the scenes staff. I also feel for the actors, especially those who moved to LA.
I will so miss OLTL. It just transitioned from A. Buchannan to Clint and Todd's son following in his dubious footsteps. Think he'll wake up now that the show is being cancelled ??? Their writing is great. Excellent continuity, good development of characters and plots, great follow up (no hanging plot lines).
Well, I'm going to take a breather and then start emailing sponsors like crazy.
Someone suggested that only internet advertising matters. I worry about the affilliates folding when the programming is so bad. Then, it's either get sat or cable or read and surf.
I'll try the sponsors and EVEN contact the affilliates. What have I got to lose, at least I can practice using my new programs and my typing LOL.

ABC has gone to the dogs. What are they thinking? We can watch the food network if we need to learn how to eat. Nutrition is a good thing, But TV is supposed to be for entertainment.
I have been watching these soaps since I was a teenager. I am now 55 years old. I will continue to watch GH, but that is the only time my tv will be on ABC. Give us our soaps back. I will boycot ABC .

Wow. Thanks for repaying LOYAL FANS by cancelling our favorite shows. There's a RECESSION and life stinks for many people right now. Thanks for making it EVEN CRAPPIER, ABC! I refuse to watch anything on ABC EVER AGAIN. Not DWTS, Not Bachelor, NOTHING! I have watched OLTL for 36 years. That's right...I started watching with my best friend at age 10. What other forum can say they have fans who watch faithfully, one show, for THAT long? Brian Frons... you SUCK! I hope this is a disasterous financial decision for him. I hope he gets fired. Now that 2 more soaps have been axed where does that leave our soap magazines? Soap Opera Digest would be okay for a while because it's the most comprehensive of all of them, but what about the CBS and ABC Soaps In Depth magazines. I think it would be hard to put out a magazine about ABC soaps when there is only 1 left. Same for CBS Soaps In Depth, since there are only 2 shows left.

I read a rumor that OLTL may not be cancelled, ABC is waiting to see how the show that replaces AMC does. If it bombs, OLTL may get a reprieve. Then ABC can look like a hero for not getting rid of both the shows after all. I guess time will tell.

I have been watching One Life to Live for the past 11 years. I'm very disappointed that ABC has suddenly pulled the plug on the show and replace it with yet another talk/lifestyle show. I will continue to watch OLTL up until its final episode, but after that, I'm done with ABC. I must admit, though, that I'm really not surprised about AMC and OLTL's cancellation. With As the World Turns an Guiding Light off the air, I figured it was only a matter of time before another soap faced cancellation. But how many talk shows do we really need?

all abc cares about is money. they don't care that millions of viewers watch soaps everyday and that it is a stabilizer in many lives. maybe asking actors to reduce their salaries or cutting shows to 30 min. might help...anything except cancellation. no one wants another food show or make-up show. that type of show does not make a viewer want to watch the next day or have something to talk to another viewer about. if abc does not reconsider the cancellations, i know many people will boycott watching any abc shows. PLEASE RECONSIDER!!!!!
not only boycot abc.... especially primetime... write the producers write the writers... voice ur opinion... fight backkkk......
Not only am I very upset about a AMC being cancelled which I have been watching for 45 years, I feel bad for all the actors on the show who packed up their families and moved to California only to be let go.

I can't help but wonder if she is going to be a co-host to this new View type show? I hope not.
I hope she doesn't host a talk show either, she is a soap star I will not miss!!
