GH Wardrobe Director Shawn Reeves has updated Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) look to reflect the West Coast influence she’s gotten during her time in Portland. When he recently took Storms shopping, he reports, “She was letting me play and watching and just sort of going with it, like, ‘I’m just going to let him do his thing.’ The things we bought weren’t really in the same world that she’s been in for the last year or two. We’re not doing, like, the little, cute collars. For a while we were doing a lot of Ted Baker, and there’s a sweetness and cuteness to it, and we’re kind of going a little more sophisticated and a little edgier with her. Because of the trajectory of the character, it made sense. She’s gone away for a while and she was obviously learning new things being in Portland with Spinelli and all this other stuff, so I just naturally kind of feel like that’s going to change somebody and you’re going to become a slightly different person. Also, she experienced a different aesthetic, and so she’s kind of going to work that in. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like PORTLANDIA. It’s not like, ‘Ooh, she’s looking kind of hipster-y.’ It’s not that; it’s more of a shift into a more sophisticated and probably simpler sort of
look, simpler clothes and jewelry.”
After years of B&B’s Eric being clean-shaven, portrayer John McCook decided to grow a beard — and likes it! “I happened to have been off for three weeks in a row and I didn’t shave,” recalls the actor. “I don’t remember what the scene was, but Eric was depressed or alone or something and I thought, ‘Well, I’m not going to shave for this.’ I said that to Ed [Scott, supervising producer] and he said, ‘Yeah, that would be good.’ Then, when I was going to shave it, I trimmed it and thought I’d leave it. I like how it looks. I like that it says who I am, the older man on the show. It’s gray. I have been told it makes Eric look more distinguished, and I know I can use all the help I can get. It’s funny because now that I’ve had it for a bit, I’ll see myself clean-shaven in a flashback and think, ‘Oh, that’s pretty cool. I looked nice without a beard.’ It’s also a funny thing that all the men on our show have facial hair now, except Francisco [San Martin, Mateo, Eric’s new estate manager]. We had to go and hire a guy who doesn’t have a beard [laughs].”
