When Nicolas Bechtel returned to GH as Spencer, he had many warm reunions with his castmates. “I think the person who was the most excited to see me was Ryan Paevey [Nathan] because he’s definitely my buddy and we had a lot of lunches and breakfasts to catch up on,” Bechtel reports. “He came in to school [where Bechtel works with a tutor on set] and gave me a pep talk about learning fractions and helped me with my math assignments. Those are the kind of things I love about him. He never acts like he can’t be bothered with me because I’m only 12.” The man behind Spencer’s Uncle Sonny is also tops in his book. “Maurice [Benard] is another one of my favorites. He’s so chill and so funny. Like, he doesn’t know how cool he really is! He’s very humble and will sit on the couch and talk to me about everything. We have an inside joke going right now and when I have scenes with him, I hate to say this, but they take a little longer than normal because he’s always making me laugh. And then when I can’t stop laughing he will start cracking up! Another person who is very important to me is Genie Francis [Laura]. Genie is like a real fairy godmother. She is so sweet. She’s so patient. And she’s so loving. She doesn’t let anyone mess with me.”
Courtney Hope (Sally, B&B) has a unique story about the first time she was recognized by a fan. “It was quite funny because I was in Australia and I hadn’t even aired there yet,” she smiles. “But, the B&B fans had heard about the new Sally coming on the show and had seen articles, and they saw me with the cast and put two and two together. It was very cool to see that fan love up close. They were very excited to see the cast there because they love the show in Australia. It was fun for me because even though I was involved in it, I could also be a fly on the wall because while some folks did recognize me, there were also a lot of people who didn’t, so I could stand back and watch the cast interact with the fan base. It’s a very gratifying experience to meet someone so moved by what you’re doing.”
It’s been a banner year for Lilly Melgar (Janice, THE BAY; ex-Lily, GH), who had a lot of projects in the works. “Earlier this year, I got to direct Ricky Martin [ex-Miguel, GH] in two videos for his All In Las Vegas Residency [concert],” shares Melgar. “It was like our professional reunion. I was part of the directing team for the video content of the show. It was just magical to be together again.” Directly after, she began work on a film, Nona. “It’s directed by Michael Polish, and produced by Kate Bosworth,” details Melgar, who plays Madame Mariposa. “It’s about human trafficking. Ricky Martin has a foundation that is trying to free the world of human trafficking, so I feel like it’s all been divine order.” Meanwhile, Melgar appears in LADIES OF THE LAKE, which premiered on Amazon in May. She smiles, “It’s one of the best years I’ve ever had!”
Since Daniel Hall’s (Scott, Y&R) recent love scene with Sharon Case (Sharon) was his first on daytime, he was unaware of the protocol. “I just wore my own underwear to the set and thought they would be fine,” chuckles the actor. “These had birds and mushrooms, they were kind of my end-of-the-week, time-to-do-laundry underwear.” And it turns out, not appropriate. “When I got to the set, they asked, ‘Don’t you have just plain black underwear?’ ” Hall recounts. “When I said these were all I had, someone had to run down and find me some dark boxer briefs. So, I wore their in-house underwear to look more tamed. I didn’t look like a wild child anymore. Now I know when I have a love scene coming up to wear simple, sleek, black underwear.”
