SHAKE IT OFF
DAYS’s Bryan R. Dattilo admits it was hard to shake off the emotional scenes he did when Lucas fell off the wagon. “I’m really bad,” he shares. “I take it home with me. I was a nightmare at my house; my family hated me. I was moody, I wasn’t sleeping very well. I was even getting a little snippy around work, which I never do, and got a little short-tempered a couple of times. It took Stuart W. Howard, our stage manager, to tell me, ‘Hey, I’m a theater actor, as well. Sometimes you take some stuff home with you and you just need to be aware of it so you can kind of unplug.’ As soon as he said that I was like, ‘You know what? You’re right.’ I didn’t even realize I was taking it home with me, so once again, thank you Uncle Stuart. He was right. I was too plugged in and I was trying to make the work too believable and too good, but when you don’t get a lot of opportunities, you want to make the most out of the ones you get. I think I might have gone a little overboard, but I pulled back. Now I’m cool. Now I’m back to reality.”

HONOR THY FATHER
B&B’s Thorsten Kaye (Ridge) is thrilled that his TV dad John McCook (Eric) has landed in the Outstanding Lead Actor category this year. “I’ve been asked numerous times already, ‘Who out of all your colleagues would you want to see win a Daytime Emmy?’ and I always say, without question or hesitation, John McCook,” shares the actor. “We had such a wonderful time doing those scenes [where Eric disowned Ridge, which McCook submitted]. That was a very emotional day for us. And let me tell you, he has worked harder than anybody in this business, and he doesn’t have any of the cynicism that I have about it. He is the most positive person I know. He does things because he loves it, not because somebody sees him in any certain way. If anyone deserves that honor, not just for this year but for his overall body of work, it’s John. I love the guy, what can I say?”

AMPLE WARNING
“In the olden days of Danny Romalotti concerts and summer pool parties, poor Traci had to wear bathing suits and be tormented by Lauren,” chuckles Beth Maitland (Traci, Y&R) of her early years in Genoa City. “I think Tracey Bregman [Lauren] took it much harder than I did. We had became close friends and she hated some of the things Lauren said to Traci. But Traci got her licks in, too, like when she dumped a huge gooey sundae on Lauren’s head.” However, it became evident that the show didn’t want the dynamic between these two gals to change. “One summer I had lost a little weight, and the producer scolded me for not being heavy enough. Ugh,” Maitland shudders. “He said, ‘I think you’ll have to eat more potatoes!’ And I was horrified in front of the crew. What’s a girl to do? Now it’s funny, but then, I was pretty embarrassed!”

RESCUE ME
Haley Pullos says she was a little bummed that Julian’s earthquake rescue of her GH character, Molly, took place off-screen. “I understood the purpose of it because of the shock value of seeing Julian carrying Molly into the hospital, but I’m always down to do some cool stunts,” she explains. That said, she was delighted that Molly was hospitalized to recover. “I was so excited about that,” she grins. “I walked into work that morning and I was like, ‘Hey, guess what, Tequan [Richmond, T.J.]? I have no lines and I’m just pretending to be asleep in the hospital bed all day!’ He was like, ‘All right, no need to rub it in!’ And I think I did a fantastic job pretending to be in a coma! I just lay there with my eyes closed while everyone stood around and talked about how much they wanted me to wake up and get better. It might be fake, but it still feels really nice to be appreciated [laughs]!” The capper, for the actress, was T.J. and Molly’s hospital bed kiss. “I read that script, where Molly takes her oxygen mask off to kiss T.J., and I literally burst into tears. I was like, ‘Oh, my God, they’re so cute!’ ”
