Marci Miller (ex-Abigail, DAYS):
This is your second nomination in a row. Was it more exciting? “This one is a little more meaningful to me for a few reasons. This was my last year [on the show], so it’s the last opportunity that I’m going to get to go and be a part of this. Also, everybody from my storyline was nominated, as well, so I get to be there with Billy and Tyler and Kate. That is super-rewarding and makes it a little more special for me.” How did you find out you were nominated? “Billy Flynn called me, actually. In the middle of the afternoon, my phone rang, I looked over, saw it was Billy and thought that was probably what it was going to be.” What did you submit? “I started out with the scenes with Billy, where Abigail realizes for the first time that she killed Andre. She’s there on Andre’s office floor, reliving all of that. At the end of that, she kind of transitions into Dr. Laura. I also submitted a set of scenes with Tyler; some of my first scenes as the Gabby character. Then there were some scenes where Gabby and Dr. Laura were inside Abigail’s head, wrestling. Then there was some stuff with Deidre Hall [Marlena] as Abigail kind of deals with the aftermath of everything.” Will you go into it feeling more relaxed this year? “Definitely. I know a little more what to expect. At the same time, I’m really genuinely thrilled to be there, whatever direction it goes. I have no expectations. Of course, I’d love to win, but it’s wonderful just to be there at all. I’m not nervous. It will just be a fun experience to be there.” Who are you bringing? “My husband [Ryan]. He is the ultimate party date ever to any party you could ever possibly attend. He’s such good energy. He’s also excited that it’s my day and will go the extra mile to make sure I’m having a good time.

This is not your first Emmy nomination. Does it ever get old? “No! Of course not! I’m always so honored and excited to just be a part of the conversation.” Where were you when you got the news? “I was in Atlanta shadowing [directors] on DYNASTY.” What did you submit? “The custody battle story.” What did you do to celebrate? “I slept! I’ve been flying back and forth to work on both B&B and DYNASTY, so sleeping and going to yoga was my real treat.” Is there anyone you thought was overlooked? “We have so many talented people on daytime. I was surprised that Scott [Clifton, Liam] didn’t get a nomination. I thought his work last year was really beautiful.” What are your thoughts on the competition? “All of these ladies are awesome. I want to celebrate them all.” What are you looking forward to most on Emmy night? “Seeing people I haven’t connected with in the last year. We get so busy. It’s nice to relax and celebrate daytime for a night.”

Maura West (Ava, GH):
How does it feel to receive your eleventh Daytime Emmy nomination? “Wonderful, in a word!” How did you find out? “I was getting ready for work and my son Joe was home on spring break, which was serendipitous. He came upstairs and gave me a hug. You always know it’s something big, because he grabs you and throws you around. It was really nice.” How did you choose your reel? “Joe always chooses my reel for me. He was away at college, so there was a lot of texting back and forth. He chose mostly scenes having to do with Kiki — the aftermath of Kiki dying, Ava confronting Griffin, Ava at the grave.” Was there a lot of congratulatory texting going on when the news broke? “Oh, of course! I was so happy for Jon [Lindstrom], Dom [Zamprogna], Maurice [Benard], Laura [Wright]. I didn’t text Max [Gail] because I didn’t have his number, but I was thinking of him!” Will Joe be your date to the ceremony again this year? “No, because he’s at school. There’s a great song that Bonnie Raitt sings with the lyric, ‘Don’t advertise your man.’ I always feel that way about Mr. [Scott] DeFreitas [ex-Andy, AS THE WORLD TURNS, her husband], but he may make an appearance.” What do you think about the other women in your category? “I love them all. Some I know better than others. Laura, I obviously know quite well and I am so happy to be in this with her. I’m happy to be going through this process with all of them! I’m looking forward to everything but dress-shopping, which I loathe.”

Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy, B&B):
This is not your first Emmy rodeo. Does it ever get old? “Never. It’s always an honor to be recognized for your work.” Where were you when you got the news? “I had just finished a hike with my newborn strapped to me when I got the call from my boss, Brad Bell [executive producer/head writer], congratulating me. I was a bit confused because I had just spoken to him the week prior congratulating me on my baby. Needless to say, I had ‘mama brain’ and completely forgot they were announcing the nominations that day!” What did you submit? “The Steffy/Liam blowout when he finds out that she slept with his dad and the troubles that ensued.” What did you do to celebrate? “Not much, since I just had a baby two weeks before they announced the nominations. But I can tell you, I feel like I’m on cloud nine. I’m very grateful.” Thoughts on your competition? “I’m just in awe of the wonderful nominated actresses I’m surrounded by.” What are you looking forward to most on Emmy night? “It’s always spectacular, getting together with other daytime cast members, having a good laugh and enjoying the night.”

Laura Wright (Carly, GH):
Congratulations! “Thank you. I did not expect it this year, so I was really surprised.” Why weren’t you expecting it? “I submitted different material than I have in the past, from when Carly was put in the mental hospital and after. It was from a very raw, real place, as opposed to the typical Carly freaking out and screaming, not that I didn’t have some of that. When I thought about the other women on my show, Michelle [Stafford, Nina] with the dead brother storyline, Maura with the dead daughter [story- line] and Finola [Hughes, Anna], who I think is probably the best actress on the planet, I didn’t feel like I had material that big. And that was just on my show! I just assumed, honestly, that people might not think I had the material people attach to Lead Actress. I felt like, ‘This may not be your year, Laura!’ But look, I’m happy to be nominated and very proud, and I am so honored to stand next to Maura through this experience.” How did you get the news? “I was having a mother/daughter morning with [daughter] Lauren, and Frank [Valentini, executive producer] called. I almost didn’t answer because I was having such a great conversation with my daughter. I knew the nominations were coming out that day, but I was really only paying attention because I really wanted Wes [Ramsey, Peter, her beau] to be nominated — and I will just say this, I think he 100 percent should have been. His reel was spectacular. But, you know, there are only so many slots.” Anyone whose work you were particularly happy to see recognized? “Oh, gosh, Max, Eden [McCoy, Josslyn], Maurice, Vernee [Watson]. Everyone in the Alzheimer’s story was nominated, and I am so thrilled for that. And Jon, of course. It’s amazing to see both him and Maurice nominated.
