Y&R Head Writer Sally Sussman and Story Consultant Kay Alden have decided to retire after long careers in daytime; Executive Producer Mal Young will assume the duties of top scribe. Aside from penning for other soaps and prime-time shows, Sussman has written in various capacities for Y&R through the years and was brought back as head writer in 2016, then eventually named co-executive producer. Alden began writing for Y&R in 1974 and took over as head writer after Co-Creator and Head Writer William J. Bell retired in 1998. She left in 2006, wrote for B&B then returned last year as story consultant. Sony Pictures Television commented, “Adding to his current responsibilities as executive producer, Mal Young will be stepping in to the role of head writer of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. He has made incredible contributions to the show since joining the team of daytime television’s #1 drama.” Daytime Confidential was the first to report the news.
