Why GH Won’t Address The Pandemic

According to GH Executive Producer Frank Valentini, there was talk behind the scenes about merging real life with reel life and acknowledging the coronavirus within the fictional world of Port Charles, but ultimately decided against it. He shares, “Given that we are a hospital-centric show, we definitely thought about incorporating Covid-related cases into the story, but prior to the lockdown, we already had a tremendous amount of scripts prepared — and although we did ultimately have to rework a few items, we would not have been able make the necessary changes in an authentic way that would be true to our viewers. To that end, we did make a point to acknowledge and extend our gratitude to our frontline workers during this week’s airing of the Nurses’ Ball.” Valentini shares behind-the-scenes secrets about what it took to get GH up and running again, and the show’s co-head writers, Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Connor, give an exclusive sneak peak of what’s ahead in the next issue of Soap Opera Digest, on sale Friday.
