Take Five With Matthew Ashford (Jack, DAYS)

What’s the last thing you binge-watched? “My wife got THE BERENSTAIN BEARS for the kids. I read the books with my older girls, but now they have this series and I’m like, ‘Oh, wow. Is that what you think they sound like? Okay.’ That actually is our binge-watch. We have a whole DVD collection so we can put it on for them so they could watch.”

What’s your favorite movie soundtrack? “This may sound really weird, but the musical soundtrack to To Kill a Mockingbird is a classic. It’s just really beautiful to me. It’s by Elmer Bernstein, and I come back to it again and again. It’s so haunting; it’s sad and lyrical and yet very childlike. It doesn’t have words, but I can hum it in my mind and in my heart and head.”

What do you look for in a friend? “Someone who is nonjudgmental and openly accepting.”

If you won a million dollars, what’s the first thing you’d buy? “A house. A nice place to live with a view and a place for children to play.”

What’s a phrase you tend to overuse? “ ‘Never give up.’ It’s true. I use it all the time. I’m a Buddhist and my kids go, ‘Oh, yeah, never give up,’ and I say, ‘That’s pretty much it.’ ”
