Quick Take With Joshua Morrow

When did you realize that Nick and Phyllis were going to be jumping back in bed? “I had an idea just simply because of the kind of energy that these two characters have around each other. Even when they’re mad at each other I like to think that all they’re thinking about is taking each other’s clothes off. They’re just really into each other. When Michelle [Stafford, Phyllis] came back and they started writing us more, I was like, ‘Yeah, this is eventually going to happen.’ I actually did not predict it would be now, I thought it would take a while. The writers have their path and we’ll tell their stories. I couldn’t be more excited. I love Michelle.”

Did you and Michelle ever say, “Oh, they’re so putting us back together”? “You know, we didn’t have to. I think we both knew where this was going. I’ll never forget after Michelle came back and Phyllis kind of sashayed into Nick’s house. She was mad at him but flirting with him, and I was like, ‘Yep, here it comes.’ So, we didn’t need to talk to each other, we just kind of knew. And it was fun. [The writers] took their time with it. I thought they did a really good job of laying it up. Michelle and I couldn’t be happier telling the story.”

Summer’s reaction to this has been interesting. Most kids want their parents back together but Summer, not so much. Why do you think that is? “You know, my parents got divorced when I was very young, but I very quickly learned even then that my parents weren’t supposed to be together. I thought it was a very human thing that Summer’s like, ‘Nah. I’ve seen what you two do to each other. I know how this is going to end. You two probably know how it’s going to end, but you can’t think about that because you guys want each other so badly.’ So Summer is being the grown-up. She’s like, ‘This is not a good idea. You guys need to rethink this.’ But Nick and Phyllis don’t want to hear that, they just want to enjoy each other’s company.”

Victor, Nikki and Victoria absolutely hate Phyllis. Plus, she’s got this animosity with Abby going. What kind of relationship can “Phick” have under these circumstances? “Yeah, it’s not a good look from the Newman family. I don’t think Nick is considering it because he doesn’t give a crap what people think about him. But yeah, everyone in the Newman family is against this woman yet Nick still wants to be with her. He’s like, ‘Listen, if we’re going to be together, then let’s do it and to hell with what people think.’ But I think Phyllis is being a little more cognizant of those outside elements.”

Do you think they’re pretty much doomed? “It’s not going to last forever based on their history and what they have going against them. It’s just not. But Nick and Phyllis don’t want to hear that. I don’t think Nick is saying, ‘Hey, let’s grow old and die together.’ It’s more, ‘This is the way I feel and I’m tired of ignoring it.’
