LOVING Alums Spill Secrets In Virtual Reunion

Former cast members from LOVING gathered for a virtual reunion on May 14, and shared some secrets about their Corinth experiences. Of her 1986 departure, Susan Walters (ex-Lorna) noted, “Yes, it was absolutely my decision. It was my first real job and I was on it for three years. I started when I was 19. I had enough indications that I could continue on from there. I really loved working on the show, but I will say that what I went through on that show would not happen, God willing, to most young women, or even not young women, in today’s workforce. I had a really bully relationship from the producer. So when it came time for me to stay, I thought instead of being yelled at and told I was stupid and unattractive and have to listen to that again, I would ask him how much I was worth to him on the show. At the time, I was probably being paid one of the lower salaries on the show, but I had a pretty popular character, so I asked him. They offered me 40 dollars more an episode, which would not have even put me up to the next person. So I said, ‘Thank you very much. Nice to be here. I loved my family,’ and I left.” Original cast member Lauren Marie Taylor (ex-Stacey), said she knew the writing was on the wall for her 1995 exit before the show transitioned to THE CITY. “Here’s the weird thing,” she recalled. “I can read people pretty much. What happened was because I had been on the show for so long, I was used to the rhythms of how everything worked. The rhythm of asking for vacation time with my family would go in a certain way. That year, my last year, I asked for a week off to go down to South Carolina for our big family vacation that we would do every year. I got an immediate yes. I came home and I said to my husband John, ‘I’m out of there.’ He goes, ‘What are you talking about?’ I said, ‘They never approve vacations like that.’ So I knew. At the end of one of the days, it was about eight weeks before the last day, they told me and they wanted to give me the courtesy. I had to keep it a secret of course, not so easy. I did. I kept it a secret for all those weeks. As soon as that vacation was approved I knew it was going to happen. I just felt it. I wasn’t surprised. But I was surprised that Morgan Fairchild [ex-Sydney, THE CITY] got my dressing room!” Noelle Beck (ex-Trisha) revealed that the show wanted her to make a cosmetic alteration before being given the role. “My audition was kind of crazy. I’m going to give you a little bit of a similar Susan Walters story so buckle your seats,” she shared. “I was living in Baltimore at the time. I took the train up to New York. I was 16 years old. I walked onto my first television set. I had my scene with John Johnston who ended up getting the role of Steve Sowolsy. He’s a great guy. I got home, waited to get the call, got the call from my agent. ‘Noelle, they love you but they want you to get a nose job. They want to write it into the storyline. They don’t like that little bump they have on your nose. They think it’s not WASP-y enough. They’re going to have the character Gwyneth, your mother, see you at boarding school and decide that you don’t look aristocratic enough. You’ll come to work with the swollen nose, the bandages, the bruises and everything. We’re going to write this into the storyline. We’re going to give you this job.’ And my agent was just horrified. I was 16. I was like, ‘Oh, my God. Somebody is going to give me a job on television but they want me to go have plastic surgery?’ I thought about it, and I said, ‘You know what? No. I’m not going to do it. Tell them no.’ And so she called them up and said, ‘No.’ And they said, ‘You know what, we’ll take her anyway.’ And so here I am, 30 some years later, I still have the same nose and I feel fabulous!” To see the full reunion, hosted by Chris Marcantel (ex-Curtis) go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbM3rbcg0Qw&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR1G4GIEqWCaVUXYkmhcb_E8fo-hTHQkDt_gNWIgemUg6qKcDmT22JHLVi8
