INTERVIEW

GH Stars Reflect On Their Days As Students

Favorite subject:

Hennesy: “English and Drama/Theater. I also loved Home Ec because it involved food. Oddly enough, I was a better cook then.”

Lawson: “English or History.”

York: “Math. There was always one correct answer!”

Least favorite subject:

Hennesy: “Geometry. However, it came in very handy years later when I started shooting pool.”

Lawson: “Junior high, it was Latin. High school, it was any math.”

York: “Science, too many words I couldn’t pronounce!”

Favorite extracurricular activity:

Hennesy: “I was a bookworm, pure and simple.”

Lawson: “I was a community theater kid from the age of 8, so I was hanging out with adults at rehearsals after school. I did try to keep wrestling season open so I could do that. In October, though, it was all about prepping my annual home haunt for Halloween.”

York: “Playing with my friends around the neighborhood and at the park.”

Favorite school supply:

Hennesy: “My purple cloth-bound notebook.”

Lawson: “I can obsess for months about a new backpack or bag before pulling the trigger. I also still compulsively buy my favorite pens. Emme [Rylan, Lulu] had to very carefully ask me to borrow a pen on set the other day. But it’s okay, because she has her favorites, too.”

York: “Crayons.” Class clown or teacher’s pet?

Hennesy: “More like that odd, intense child that was either terribly smart or terribly sociopathic. Either way it was terribly something.”

Lawson: “Not really either one. A lot of school was tough for me because I was way more interested in whatever musical I was working on at the community theater. This became … problematic in high school.”

York: “Probably a little bit of both but leaning toward teacher’s pet. Batting those long eyelashes helped improve my grades!”

School portrait: Frame it, burn it or post it online?

Hennesy: “Scan it — burn the original — and put it in a folder with a major security lock.”

Lawson: “Burn it. Please. My sister is holding on to a few bad ones to shame me with.” York: “[Put it] in the bottom of a box in the back of the garage.”

Detention: Rarely, regularly or never?

Hennesy: “Never. Oh, I tried, but no one ever wanted to get into trouble with me.”

York: “I had one completely undeserved one-hour detention.”

Study ahead or cram for a test?

Hennesy: “I was really more of a crammer.”

Lawson: “I always studied. Some subjects, like math, still had me cramming up until a test.”

York: “Cram, there were too many great things on TV!”

Honor roll or just scraped by?

Hennesy: “Honor roll and I’ll be damned if I know how I did it.”

Lawson: “I was an average student. I had a hard time focusing on the school’s agenda versus what I was curious about.”

York: “Some As, mostly Bs and some Cs, not the honor roll but it seemed no matter how hard I studied I was always just as smart as the guy next to me, wink wink.”

Favorite movie about school:

Hennesy: “Any of the [Harry] Potters.” Hogwarts is just so my speed.”

Lawson: “Dead Poets Society.”

York: “Animal House.”

Prom night: A bust or a blast?

Hennesy: “Don’t make me go back there.”

Lawson: “Absolutely a bust.”

York: “Not really either one, just another school dance.”

Reunion: Attend or skip it?

Hennesy: “Attended one. Done and done, thank you very much.”

Lawson: “Skip it. I’ve kept in touch with some friends. I’m more connected to my college friends than high school.”

York: “Skipped it.”

Where is your diploma now?

Hennesy: “In my fireproof safe. I think. Might be in a drawer.”

Lawson: “No. Idea.”

York: “In the bottom of a box in the back of the garage!”

In high school, my dream career was…

Hennesy: “To be a working actress.”

Lawson: “I don’t think I had realized I wanted to be an actor yet. Things I definitely dreamed about: horror novelist, law enforcement, real-life Batman….”

York: “I dreamt about living in California, but didn’t really think about what I wanted to do.”
